Clean production areas are critically important for consumer products manufacturers. The risk
of contaminated food products, cosmetics or drugs reaching the market is unacceptable.
To protect public health and safety, regulations often require a completely germ-free
environment.

Until recently, the cleaning processes required
to maintain a hygienic environment were often at
odds with the optimal functioning of the drives
and motors in processing equipment. It was
difficult to remove contaminants from hard-to-
reach drive components. Motors were equipped
with cooling fins and fans that accumulated dirt,
germs and bacteria. Air circulation often distrib-
uted these contaminants through a plant. Paint
and other coatings on these components were
also frequently damaged by aggressive cleaning
products and processes.
Today that has all changed with the introduction
of new drive and motor solutions from
SEW-EURODRIVE.

Motors of the DAS series

The motors of the DAS series are not equipped with fans, which prevents
distribution of germs or other contaminants by air circulation. They are
available in three motor sizes DAS80, DAS90 and DAS100 that can be
mounted directly to helical, parallel shaft helical, helical-bevel, helical-worm
or SPIROPLAN® gear units. The smooth surface of the DAS motors makes
for easy cleaning. This design prevents the accumulation of dirt and almost
completely prevents the formation of germs or bacteria.

A complete ASEPTICplus solution

The ASEPTICplus drive package for the DAS gearmotor series offers a high
degree of protection against corrosion as well as aggressive cleansing agents
and disinfectants. In addition to the high-quality material used for bolts, oil
seals and output shafts, the drives are completely protected by the OS4
surface protection coating.

SEW-EURODRIVE had the resistance of the OS4 surface protection coating

tested and certified for those cleansing agents and disinfectants customary
in the different branches of industry. Such a coating meets the high require-
ments of a hygienic environment. It also dramatically increases the service
life of the operated drives and the availability of the entire system.
