Comic Name & Country: Agata Hop, Poland

Rhetorical Examples and Explanation

Appeal

Ethos According to the 2019 gender equality index, Poland has a

score of 55.2 out of 100, which is 12.2 less than the EU average.
Therefore, Hop lives in the patriarchal society that us
Americans are also familiar with. This is a woman who
experiences the consequences of gender inequality firsthand,
and her comic proves that she is one to combat the
patriarchal ruling that men have over women.

Logos Some people believe that feminism is just women trying to be

more powerful than men, and others argue that things like
gender inequality. However, sources like the gender equality
index and american progress reports allow educated people
to deduce that women of varying equality in every country
are faced with an unequal pay for and equal job done. On top
of this, an underlying expectation for women in society is for
them to also be in charge of the children, especially in less
developed countries. Therefore women are faced with more
burden when trying to work for success.

Pathos The cartoon depicts a man on an escalator to success, while

the woman is given a ladder to climb to success. The man
doesn’t carry anything while he eases up the escalator, and
the woman carries a baby on her back and two cases. This
says that women are given a much harder chance at success,
while men are pushed up to success with ease. This comic
evokes a feeling of pity for the population of women, as it is
visibly unfair that men are given an easier chance at being
successful.
