To facilitate deeper understanding of the study, the following terms were defined conceptually and

operationally.

Chapter III
Research Method and Procedure

This chapter presents the research design, subject of the study, data gathering instrument, data
gathering procedure and statistical treatment of data.

Research Design
The research employed the descriptive research design to assess the task performance of master
teachers in the first congressional district of Batangas as basis for designing a capability building
program. The purpose is to find new truth. The truth may come into various forms such as new
generalization which are causal factors in the discovery of accurate information that will solved
problems.
According to Khan (2003), the descriptive method was used to gather information and determine
the nature of present conditions. Specifically, this is a type of research design that helps to gather
and interpret the significant relationship between variables. Likewise, the mentioned design is
primarily concerned with the present, although it often consider past events and influences as they
relate to current conditions. The said steps and characteristics of descriptive research were
similarly undertaken in the present study. In addition, the researcher looked back and gathered to
the past to better understand and resolve difficulties at present time.

Subjects of the Study

The respondents involved in this study were secondary master teachers and principals from the
selected junior high school in the first conggressional district of Batangas. Data for the study were
collected through questionnaire. Questionnaires were prepared and administered to all secondary
master teachers and principals on the scope of the study.
Respondents Frequency Percentage
Master Teachers 41 41.2%
Principals and Department 44 58.8%
Heads
Total 100 100%
Data Gathering Instrument
The main instrument that the present study utilized in gathering data was a survey wuestionnaire
written and presented to the respondents using English as medium. The questionnaire was
composed of three parts. Part I includes the respondents demographic profiling such as gender,
age, length of service, and educational attainment. Part 2 solicited for the respondents assessment
on the performance of master teachers in key result areas including instructional competence,
instructional supervision, curriculum development, professional growth and development and
community involvement. Finally, part 3 asked for the respondents on the challenges encountered
by master teachers in performing their task.
Construction of the Questionnaire. The researcher make a draft of the questionnaire to evaluate the
task performance of the master teachers based on the demographic profile of the respondents.
Indicators were also formulated to give specific description on how each masters key results are
was manifested. The key result area variables are instructional competence, instructional
supervision, curriculum development, professional growth and development and community
involvement.
Validation of Instrument. Right after formulating questionnaire, it underwent checking, editing and
revising through the help of the authors dissertation adviser. The final draft was then validated by
a group of professionals who were experts in the academe.
Administration of Instrument. Once permission was granted to proceed in the study, the researcher
personally requested the Area 1 Chairman of Junior High School to conduct the study and utilized
the junior high school master teachers and principal as well as the department heads. The
researcher also include cover letter for the respondents to be familiar about the content and
purpose of study.
Scoring of Responses. Using the scale, the respondents were asked to rate the task performance of
the master teachers in key results areas. In order to determine the scores, the following ranges and
verbal interpretations were used.

Weight Points Range Verbal Interpretation

5 4.50-5.00 Very Satisfactory
4 3.50-4.49 Satisfactory
3 2.50-3.49 Moderate Satisfactory
2 1.50-2.49 Less Satisfactory
1 1.00-1.49 Needs Improvement

Data Gathering Procedure

The questionnaires were formally distributed and retrieved on the same day. The data gathering
process lasted for almost one month. With the help of a statistician, the data collected were tallied,
analyzed and interpreted in accordance with the corresponding tools used.

Statistical Treatment of Data

Frequency distribution refers to the arrangement of the data showing the frequency of occurence.
The statistical tool was utilized to present data clearly and accurately in tabulated form with
corresponding rows and columns for each specified class category. In this study, this was used in
getting the frequency of occurence of the respondents' demographic profile.
Percentage is a number or rate that is expressed as a certain number of parts of something divided
into 100 parts.
The frequency distribution and percentage were used in order to answer statement problem one.
The computed data were then ranked in order to determine the particular position of the variables
being assessed.
The mean or arithmetic average was used to measure the central tendency. In this study, this
statistical measure was utilized in determining the central tendency of respondents' rating in every
indicator for every variable.
The mean, together with the verbal interpretation of scores, was used to answer statement problem
two.
T-test was used in determining the significant difference of the two sample means. This was used
in identifying significant difference of the responses between the principal and department heads
and master teachers.
