CHINA’S RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENT
Recently China launched 13 satellites in a single
rocket successfully.

The satellites, including 10 commercial remote

sensing satellites developed by Argentinian
company Satellogic, blasted off atop a
Long March-6 carrier rocket from the Taiyuan
Satellite Launch Centre in north China's Shanxi
Province

FIRST 6G EXPERIMENTAL SATELLITE
One of the 13 satellites that China launched
was a Chinese 6G experimental satellite

It will be used to verify the performance of 6G

technology in space as the 6G frequency band
will expand from the 5G millimeter wave
frequency to the terahertz frequency

WHAT IS SPECTRUM?
Spectrum relates to the radio frequencies allocated to the
mobile industry and other sectors for communication over
the airwaves.

Because the mobile industry has demonstrated — time and

time again — its potential to generate economic value and
social benefit, operators are urging national regulators to
release sufficient, affordable spectrum in a timely manner for
mobile. Additional frequencies, including both coverage and
capacity bands, means mobile operators can connect more
people and offer faster speeds.

5G VS 6G
In simple words, 6G is widely believed to be
smarter, faster and more efficient than 5G.

It promises mobile data speeds 100 times faster

than 5G network currently available in limited
countries. With speeds of up to 100 times of
100 gigabits per second, 6G is set to be as
much as 100 times faster than 5G.
09-11-2020
5G VS 6G
5G great bandwidth, giving higher download
speeds, eventually up to 10 gigabits per second
(Gbit/s).

It will be the successor to 5G and will be likely

to be significantly faster, at speeds of ~95 Gb/s.

RANGE
Whereas 5G leverages mmWave in
the microwave frequency range, 6G
will take advantage of even smaller
wavelengths at the Terahertz (THz)
band, which is typically referred to as
100 GHz to 3 THz.

POINT TO NOTE
Just as there have been, and will continue to be, many
challenges with 5G, so will there be many new challenges
with 6G. One of those challenges will be developing
commercial transceivers at the to-be utilized THz
frequencies. This is largely an area in which electronics
component providers will need to innovate.

For example, semiconductor providers will need to deal

with extremely small wavelengths and correspondingly small
physical size of RF transistors and how they will interwork
with element spacing of THz antenna arrays.

CHINA RACING AHEAD
China has already established supremacy
in 5G technology through their companies
like Huawei

U.S has to force major countries to

restrict China’s entry into their 5G
market

DETAILS
China is now taking the lead in the next-generation technology. In another
example, ZTE which is a major international provider of telecommunications,
enterprise and consumer technology solutions signed a strategic
cooperation agreement on 6G with China Unicorn. Under the terms of the
agreement, both parties will share their data on 6G and jointly explore the
development of the technology. It is also reported that Huawei has started
research on 6G.

China’s Ministry of Science and Technology said in a statement that it will set
up two working groups to carry out research on 6G. In theory, the first
group will consist of relevant government departments who will be
responsible for promoting 6G research and development in the country. The
second group comprising 37 universities, research institutes and enterprises
will lay out the technical aspects of 6G.

WHO IS WORKING ON 6G?
Although China has understood the importance of
6G — it is only a matter of time before major
companies and governments begin their own
projects on this front. Japan has joined the 6G
bandwagon along with China.

Earlier this year, Japan announced in a press

conference that it seeks to lead standardisation
efforts and examine potential challenges in 6G

CONCLUSION
India still suffers with delays in the roll
out of 5G. Many Indian companies
have said they will not participate in
5G spectrum auction because they
are too expensive.

09-11-2020
CONCLUSION
India needs to quickly solve the issue of 5G roll
out by taking some difficult policy decisions.

If 5G roll out in India is delayed then it will take

a longer time for the country to get
accustomed to 6G
