It is spring break, the middle of march, in seventh grade. The salty mist of the east coast
is enough to make me want to stay forever. I gaze into the cloudy, dull sky as all my problems
seem to drift away. In the distance, the tempestuous hungry waves roll against the cold sand,
drifting closer to my bare feet. As I walked closer to the ocean, the wind brushes her fingers
through my hair, causing me to glance upwards.
Focusing my attention past the edge of the water, I notice the enormous shoal patches.
The huge shadowing haystack rock makes me feel small in this big world. I begin to wander
closer to the shoal, the waves of cold salty water creeping up behind me and tickling the back of
my bare feet. I feel a drip of water on the tip of my nose. But as soon as I convince myself it was
just the ocean, I get another drop of water on my finger, and another on my knee! I stop in my
tracks and look up with excitement. It’s raining!
As if the moment could not get any better, a bright glowing rainbow split the sky in two
like Moses and the sea. The sky begins to clear up as soon as the rainbow shows her face,
making the surroundings brighten up. I am taken in by the soothing, relaxing, peaceful
atmosphere. I stroll along, the slick brown sugar sand pulling my feet under, leaving a perfect
imprint behind. Comforted by the rhythmic sounds of the ocean splashing up against the sand
and the rainbow lighting, I become enveloped by everything around me.
