COMPETENCIES
The learners analyze common business transactions using the rules of debit and credit, solve
simple problems and exercises in the analyses of business transaction
OVERVIEW
The leaners shall be able to differentiate the types of business transactions and their analysis, to
include definition and nature of business transactions, types of source or business documents,
and the rules of debits and credits

I. Learning Objectives: At the end of the period the students shall be able to;
i) Discuss the nature of trial balance,
ii) analyze common business transactions using the rules of debit and credit
iii) Perform and analyze business exercises.

i) In your own understanding why do we need trial balance in our
business transaction?
 Analysis
a. Trial balance- is a list of accounts with their respective debit or
credit balances. It is prepared to verify the equality of debit and
credit.
b. Procedures in the preparation of a trial balance as follows:
- List the account title in numerical order.
- Obtain the account balance of each account from the ledger and
enter the debit balances in the debit column and credit
balances in the credit column.
- Add the debit and credit column
- Compare the total
c. Trial balance is a control devise that helps minimize accounting
errors. For example, if the bookkeeper failed to record payment for
rent, the trial balance are equal but in reality, the accounts are
incorrect since the rent expense is understated and cash overstated.
