CMDB, Assurance and Service Bridges provide interface and data sources towards external
inventory software, PM and FM software and service information from Big Data analytics.
The Service Quality Analyzer module collects the information from the bridges, computes and
stores them in the NIMS™ common framework which provides the data aggregation and
warehousing.
The Service Designer module allows the operator to create service templates used to probe the
Inventory for the discovery existing services.
The Assurance Data Designer (aka Desktop Client) allows defining ad-hoc reporting, KQIs/SQIs
while the Web client allows displaying the pre-defined reports, dashboards, graphs and other pre-
defined views by means of a standard web browser. The web client also enables users to some
level of data mining on the available reports. Network faults impact on running services is
monitored by the Problem Manager application which provides the service status and all the
details about the faults affecting the resources involved in the service instance.

Service Designer enables the operator in defining service model templates which are re-used to
capture existing and future service instances in the service inventory data source. This process of
integration is called Service Capture, which is the basis for service modelling as Business Entities
(or Network/Service Element types) are made accessible to the Service Designer user to build the
template graph while creating relationships between business entities, and for discovering and
associating data collection with the entities. The user is also able to modify or update at any time a
service template, based on updates to the business or service model.

Data collected and processed by ProAssure™ come from different sources: Performance
Management Systems (e.g. MYCOM OSI PrOptima™), Fault Management Systems (e.g. MYCOM
OSI NetExpert™) and Inventory Management Systems (e.g. in-house Opertator’s software).
ProAssure™ interfaces these external sources by means of Data Bridges which are configured with
extraction policies and filters in order to import only the relevant information.
The PM Data Bridge imports MOCs, KPIs and counters, as well as parent-child relations among
physical or logical managed instances (physical ports, devices, logical interfaces, etc.).
The FM Data Bridge imports fault information about the managed resources.
The CM Data Bridge imports the inventory about the service instances and the relevant attributes.
The ProAssure™ analytic engine combines all the available information through the available
reporting tools.

Data Importation and Pre-Aggregation

• Data is imported at the time granularity
Resource Instance
specified within the Bridge for each entity
• In this example the counter data is
Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q
imported at Quarter-Hour granularity
• When one hour of Quarter-Hour data has Quarter-Hour
been imported it is aggregated and stored
at the hour level as well
H H H H
• When a day’s worth of Hourly data has
been imported it is aggregated and stored Hour
at the Day level as well
• All counters data are stored in flat files
• Counter values are pre-calculated for D
future use Day

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

PM data and fault events are imported at specific time granularities, in this example every quarter
hour. The NIMS™ Framework architecture provides an automatic pre-aggregation of data based on
time granularity; when all the samples from a lower time granularity are available, they are
automatically aggregated to a higher granularity and stored in a separate flat file for future use.
When an operator shall request the PM value for a specific hour, the NIMS™ Framework will simply
access the correct file as all the calculations have been already executed in advance.
If the operator requires a day-level report the system shall access the relevant day-granularity flat
file rather then collecting all the data at quarter hour and process them on-the-fly: this approach
can provide much better performances.

PR-005-D EAA-ProAssure Desktop Client and Basic User Operations

Aggregations
• Aggregation mechanisms combine data from one granularity to another
• A Service-level report is computed aggregating End Point-level data
• A Day-level counter is computed aggregating Hourly counter data
• There are several methods of combining the data (sum, average, max, min, etc.)
• Network Object Model
• Defines parent granularity level

Rollup and Drilldown

• Granularity indicates a specific level IP Backhaul
of Time or Element
• Rollup allows to quickly change a IP Device IP Device IP Device

– IP Interface to IP Device IP Interface IP Interface IP Interface
– Hour to Day
• Drill-down allows to quickly change a IP Interface

The configuration available in each single Service Template also provides the parent-child relation
across the different Element entities, such configuration allows the operator to easily explore the
hierarchy of a certain technology using the roll-up and drill-down functions in the Desktop Client.
The same concept is available for the Time entities.

The Elements palette contains the Element entities imported in the application.
The Area palette shows for each category of Network Area (NA) the different pre-defined groups of
elements.
The Time palette provides the list of available time entities, from 5 minutes periods to months, as
well as generic calendar entities (e.g. Fridays, Working Days, etc.).
The Calculation palette is a collection of the Performance Indicators (PM counters and FM events)
imported from the PM and FM layers according to the Service Template configuration, it also
contains the custom Service Quality Indicators and Key Performance Indicator generated by the
operators or acquired as part of a MYCOM OSI Solution.
The Operators can drag and drop any element of a palette in a report or graph, to extract the
relevant data.
The palette area is equipped with a search tool (binocular button) to retrieve any entity by name
or other properties.

Elements Palette
• Hierarchical organization of the
imported entities
• Automatically updated upon
Service Template™ instantiation
• Rfs, Cfs and Template root folders
• One folder for each instantiated
template

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The palette is organized in a hierarchical fashion, by clicking on any entity type the system shall
display the list of relevant instances (imported services), regardless to the underlying service
structure. In a general way there are three root entity types: Rfs (Resource Facing Service), Cfs
(Customer Facing Service) and Template. Under the root Template folder ProAssure™ defines one
new folder for each Service Template configured, each template folder contains a number of sub-
folder according to the entities used in the template structure, these folders contains the instances
of the elements used in each service instance. In this way the operator can easily:
• Display the list of service instances imported (click on the Service folder)
• Display which entities of a given type are used in the type of service (click on the relevant sub-
folder)
In the example in the screenshot: the selected folder displays the services instances for the
Template UAT_Template, if the operator needs to obtain a list of End Point entities involved in any
service instance of these specific type, he simply needs to click on theEndpointService folder.

Note: when new templates are being instantiated through the Service Designer the users
connected to the Desktop Client need to logout and connect to be able to operate on the new
instances.

The Time Palette

• Selection contain members that
correspond to a specific period of
time
– Example: Day → 03 Aug 16
• Dispatching members corresponds to
a repeatable, periodic time slot
– Example: Day of Week → Monday
• Members are filtered according to the
Global Context settings

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The Time palette provides the time entities at different granularities. Time entities are grouped in
two main sets: Selection and Dispatching.
Selection contains all the time granularities in the period of time selected in the Global Context,
for instance the Day instance will contain all the days in the selected period, Quarter Hour shall
contain all the quarter of hour periods in the same.
Dispatching contains repeatable periods of time, for instance selecting Monday in Day of Week,
will include in the report all the Mondays in the Global Context; selecting Week Days in Week Part,
will include in the report all the data relevant to the all the days Monday to Friday in the Global
Context.

• One folder for:
– Fault Management
– Performance Management
– Service Management
• Auto discovered folder contains

ProAssure™ KQI/SQI

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The content of the Calculation palette is driven by the Template as it will contain the counters and
KPIs as configured in the Service Template. The root EA folder contains up to 3 sub-folders for the
imported metrics: Fault, Performance and Service Management. In each folder the system creates
the relevant metrics grouped in folders.
The operator can define further KQI/SQIs exploiting these imported metrics (or purchase one of
the MYCOM OSI Solutions).

The Global Time Context

• Verify on client start-up
• Set time periods available in Time palette
• Start and end date are based on midnight
• Default value is 14 days

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The Global Context is the time reference that the client shall use for the current session. It will
define the content of the Time palette, which will show only those time entities within the period
defined in the context, and it also controls the list of imported network elements, if one network
element has been imported outside the global context period it will not appear in the relevant list
(e.g. the network element imported on the 01/09/2016 and the global context is set from the
01/08/2016 to the 20/08/2016).
The operator can select a specific period (Start – End date) or a specific duration in days; it is also
possible to select the time zone to use in the reports, date and time values shall be adjusted
according to the selection.
The Desktop Client retains the Global context setup among the different sessions for the same
user.
It is highly suggested to verify the Global context at the beginning of each session, as any change
requires a client restart to be effective.

The structure of a table report is made of four areas:

• Column, Row and Table zones can host any type of data: Network Element entities, Time
dimensions or Calculation
• The Filter Zone can be populated by Network Element or Time dimension entities
The operator can easily drag and drop the desired entities in the destination areas, the only
constraint is that all data must be homogeneous in the same zone, it is not possible to mix
different dimensions in the same zone or different Managed Object Classes. For instance it is not
possible to define a new report where eCells and IP Interfaces are in the same zone.
The Desktop Client shall display an error message when the user attempts such an operation.

The table summarizes what entities can be configured in which area. The general concept is very
simple, any entity can occupy any table zone except Calculations which cannot be used in the filter
zone. Some limitations may apply if the report is meant as a source for the Web Client content (see
the relevant training material for further details).

• Network Element Dimension Objects
• Time Dimension Objects
• Calculation Objects
• Report statistics have meaning in the
context of
– What: network element instances being

– When: time period
– How: measurements

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The building blocks of a report are the instances of the different objects in the palettes, they must
be selected and combined in the report so as to provide meaningful information to the user.
The table report can be seen as a description of:
• What: the network element instances being analyzed
• When: the time period
• How: the KQI/SQIs or attributes
The application shall retrieve the required information from the data warehouse.

report, some members of the Hour of Day are dragged in the column zone, while one KQI/SQI is
dragged to the table zone of the report from the Calculation palette.
Please note that the members in the table zone are represented in the row zone, associated to
each member in the Row zone, this enhance the report clarity in case of multiple calculations in
the table zone.
When a zone is populated by some data the system displays a tab with the relevant entity type
(eCells, IPInterface, Day, Hour of the Day, etc.) KPIs are reported with a generic “Calculations” tag.

Computing the Report

• Compute a single report
• Computing multiple reports
– To start computing a report:
– Shortcut sequence: F9
– Or: Compute icon in the toolbar
• Use Compute All alternatively
• Use Computation Threshold

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The computation is the last step, it will trigger the data retrieval from the warehouse, the
computation can be almost instant or can require several seconds to be completed, it depends on
the report complexity: the number of elements involved, the number of time periods, the
complexity of the KPIs. A real-time progress bar will display how long it will take for the
computation to be completed.
Operators can configure a warning message when the computation requires more than a given
threshold, to modify this value select Report → Computa on Configura on

Table report Example

Subset of Hours of
Day in Column zone
Days in
Filter zone

eCells in
Row zone

Multiple
Calculations in Table
zone

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

In this example the report has been created with the following configuration:
• Some instances of eCells in the Row zone
• A subset of instances from Hour of Day (08:00-20:00) in the Column zone
• 3 Calculations in the table zone (the names are reported in the row zone)
• Some instances of the Day time period in the filter zone
What is the benefit of having some Days in the filter zone? With this configuration it is possible to
analyse the results for the same period of time (8-20) for different days, the operator shall select a
different day from the filter and calculate the report so as to have the relevant data for the day.
This allows the operator to easily switch from one day to another one and compare the eCell
behaviour against the selected KPIs.

Report troubleshooting
• Missing data
• Computation logs

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The following section covers the most common issues in report creation and some troubleshooting
hints to workaround them.

© MYCOM OSI - Confidential 42

PR-005-D EAA-ProAssure Desktop Client and Basic User Operations

Ops! Something went wrong…

• Data retrieval did not take place
• Different possible reasons, not necessarily errors:
– Requested data are not in the warehouse
– Wrong time granularity selected: counter values do not exist for that granularity
– Wrong network element entity: counter/parameter not applicable
– The selected KQI/SQI is not applicable to the NE/Time granularity in the report
• Computation engine displays different indications according to status

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

In some cases the computation engine may not be able to retrieve the requested data or, even
worse, it can display an error message.
There are different explanations to the same issue:
• The requested data are not available in the data warehouse, for instance the selected network
element has been imported at a later date than what is stated in the report
• The application does not have the counter/parameter value at the selected granularity, for
instance the report is requesting counter values at 15 minutes granularity while these are
available only at hour granularity or higher
• The selected parameters/counters do not match with the network element entity
• The selected KQI/SQI cannot work with the NE classes or Time dimensions provisioned in the
report (e.g. the KQI/SQI requires FDDCells and the report is provisioned with eCells, or the
KQI/SQI requires days granularity and the report is configured with hours or lower granularities)
The computation engine shall display different information according to the type of issue.

PR-005-D EAA-ProAssure Desktop Client and Basic User Operations

Common issues
• Missing data • Warning sign in computation log
• A cross identifies missing values for • Computation engine found an
selected period inconsistency when querying for data

Need urgent investigation

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

In the first example, the computation engine cannot retrieve the values for one calculation for two
specific time periods. This could mean that the data was not made available by the Vendor OSS or
the data importation did not succeed for these specific data samples on this network element
instance. Missing calculation values for several network element instances over multiple time
periods are not a common issue and should be investigated by system administrators with due
urgency (assuming that the selected entities are compatible each other…).
In the second example the computation engine displays a warning sign and the error message
highlights an incompatibility with the network element class, therefore the relevant calculation
cannot be retrieved because it simply does not exist for this Managed Object Class.

Report Computation Logs

• Computing is divided into 3 steps
– Step 1. Determining the granularity
– Step 2. Mapping objects to the data
– Step 3. Extracting the data
• Common report errors
– Can’t compute, missing calc.Dimension
– Maximum of 100 members in the TABLE
zone
– Could not parse…
– While creating calc.Dimension: found only...
– Skipped calculation with no compatible
source granularities

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The computation log is always available at the end of a calculation, to access click the info or
warning icon at the bottom of the report window.
The window displays the log of operations carried out by the computation engine, simply select
any item to get the details. In the example, one calculation has been excluded from the report as
the selected network element instance or time granularity (source granularity) is not compatible
with the calculation (either the operator has selected the wrong entity or the wrong calculation).
These are some of the most common report errors:
Can’t compute, missing calc.Dimension no calculation has been added to the report
Maximum 100 members in the Table zone the report configuration exceeds the maximum number
of 100 KPIs/counters
Could not parse… one component of a formula cannot be found, most probably it has been
deleted
While creating calc.dimension found only… some of the calculations cannot be found (might be
deleted)
Skipped calculation with no compatible source granularities the selected calculation is not
compatible with the time granularity or the network element entity in the report

PR-005-D EAA-ProAssure Desktop Client and Basic User Operations

Using Rollup and Drilldown

• Change the Time or NE dimension granularity in the report
• Move up the hierarchy by one or several levels by performing Rollup
• Show the children of a dimension by drilling down
• Rollup and Drilldown can be apllied either on columns or rows
• Once executed no rollback to previous selection of MOIs

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The Roll Up and Drill Down functions can quickly modify the granularity of the NE or Time
dimension.
Both commands are based on the parent-child relationship set by the Adaptor™ and discovered
during the attribute data import, they allow to explore the relevant hierarchy.
For instance, it is possible to drill down on NodeB to display all the managed FddCells, or Roll Up
from one LTEtoLTE Neighbouring link to the managing eNodeB; the same operation can be done on
the Time instances, drill down a one hour period to Quarter_Hour will display all the four quarter
of hour periods within the selected hour.
Once the Roll Up or Drill Down are executed it is not possible to revert back to the previous
selection in the report, it is then necessary to perform a new selection from the relevant palette.

PR-005-D EAA-ProAssure Desktop Client and Basic User Operations

Using Rollup and Drilldown

• Can be executed on a selection of multiple NE entities
• Can be executed on the global dimension
• Can be performed on most of the report & graphs areas (Table, Column, row, X, Y, Z)
• Roll-up and drill down can be performed in the graph on a selection of NE

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The Roll Up and Drill Down operations can be executed on:

• a selection of multiple NEs
• the global dimension (in this case they are executed on the visible instances only)
• most of the report & graphs areas (Table, Column, row, X, Y, Z)
• a selection of NEs in a graph

PR-005-D EAA-ProAssure Desktop Client and Basic User Operations

Drilldown on KPIs
• View KQI/SQI formula components
• Quickly Find counter affecting the
KQI/SQI value
– No need to search for raw counters
– Keeps the original KQI/SQI and adds its
direct children components
– Replace by Components
– Add Raw-Level (raw counters) components
– Replaces the original formula by its direct
child components

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The Drill Down function can be also applied to formulas. When applied, it allows to add or replace
the existing formula with its basic components: direct children (other sub-formulas or raw
counters), or raw-level components (all formulas are exploded up to their raw counters).
It is an effective way to troubleshoot a KQI/SQI as well as verify which component is contributing
more to a specific result.

Aggregation in the Table Report

• All Counters and KPIs have aggregation rules in their definitions
• Aggregation on Row zone: aggregates values for the members in the row zone at
every occurrence in the Column zone
• Aggregation on the Column zone: aggregates value for the members in the column
zone at every occurrence in the row zone

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

All the counters and KPIs have in their definition specific aggregation rules for the NE and Time
dimensions.
The aggregation function in the table report execute the aggregation rule set in the definition:
Aggregation in the row zone: aggregates values for the members in the row zone at every
occurrence in the Column zone
Aggregation on the Column zone: aggregates value for the members in the column zone at every
occurrence in the row zone
To activate the function simply right click on one of the member names in the row or column zone
and select Enable Aggregation.
In this example the row zone is populated with members from Network Element (eCells), while the
column zone is populated with members from the Time dimension (Hours of Day).
Aggregation on the row zone makes the system to add a new row (AGGR.) where it aggregates
KQI/SQI values from all the eCells for the same Hour (in the KQI/SQI definition it is stated to sum
the values when aggregating in the NE dimension).
The aggregation on the column zone aggregates KQI/SQI values from each Hour in the report for
the single eCell (sum is the aggregation rule for the Time dimension).
The aggregation method (average, mean, max value, min value, etc.) is given by the configuration
of each single KQI/SQI.

Sorting Operations
• Right-click on column
• Sorting operation on Columns only
• Ascending/Descending sorting options

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The operators can sort report values based on the results of one or more column.
Right click on the column header and select Sort → Ascendant/Descendant, the column values will
be sorted and the report results will be rearranged accordingly. Ascending sorting for numeric
values occurs from 0 to 9 while the same on strings occurs A to Z (case insensitive).
It is possible to daisy-chain multiple columns (a number indicates the sorting priority), in this case
sorting occurs on the first column where sorting has been activated, after the first sorting, items
with the same values will be arranged according to the sorting option in the second.
In case of multiple entities in the table zone (e.g. multiple KPIs) it is necessary to select the cell in
the column corresponding to the calculation (or entity type) that must be used as sorting
reference. Click on the relevant cell then proceed on the column header, right click and select the
sorting option.

The column filtering options provide a valuable tool to quickly display the worst/best performer
against a given calculation. The N Highest/N Lowest filter displays only those rows showing the first
n rows with the highest/lowest counter value, filtering out all the remaining rows.
Right click on the column header, then select Filter → N Highest (or N Lowest)
The number of items that fill be displayed is configurable, click on the Change Setting button (clog
wheel button), in the Report Setting window locate the parameter Top N size, click in the value
field and enter the desired number of items; click on Save My Settings and Close. Please note that
this change shall affect this report only.
Operators can combine the N Highest/N Lowest filtering with sorting on the same column, this will
result in a chart like report.

Dashboard Type of Reports

• Real-time report with automatic
computation
• Automatically report re-arrangement

• Easy to setup
• Configure the auto-refresh
– RealTime: activate/deactivate dashboard
functionality
– RefreshDisplayRange: number of granularity

– Offset:: backward shift in time from current report icon
timestamp

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

A Dashboard Report is a real-time report with automatic computation and auto-refresh on the
latest time granularities available.
Configure the report with the requested NE, Time and Calculation dimension instances, then click
con Report Settings, in the window open the Dashboard folder and configure the following
parameters:
RealTime: activate/deactivate dashboard functionality, set it to True
RefreshDisplayRange: the number of previous granularity periods that will be visible in the
dashboard report, periods are calculated starting from the current timestamp
RefreshRate: the time interval (in minutes) between refresh attempts
Offset [optional]: the number of granularity periods for which the report should be shifted back in
time; for instance, the report should cover the last 10 hours, from 1600 to 0600, the offset value is
set to 2, then the dashboard report shall display the results from 1400 to 0400. This shifting
mechanism is very useful in case of data which do not benefit from the near real-time data import
and would be displayed as missing data without a shifting adjustment.
If a report is set as real-time its behaviour is also reflected on the Web Client content based on
that report (scorecards, gauges, map views, etc.).

Other Report Settings

• Store relative dates
– True: Relative days in reference to the date used in the report: a time delta
• Display cell labels
– Allows the display of the TABLE zone contents in a column of the report.
• Reliability display
– Displays how reliable the generated values
• Default Row/Column header width/height
• Allows to custom sizing (in pixels)
• Auto size Label Mode
• Save your preferences

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

Besides the options already explored, the Report Settings window offers additional customizations
for the active table report.
The Store relative dates option allows saving dates in the report as relative values to the current
date. When set to True, the time reference of a table report is saved as a relative
number of days in reference to the date: a time delta.
For example, assuming the table report is saved on the 10th March, then the 10th March is day 0,
while the 9th March is day -1, 8th March is day -2, etc.
On the 22nd April, the report is recomputed, then day 0 automatically becomes the 22nd April,
day -1 becomes 21st April, day -2 becomes 20th April, etc.
The Reliability display mode and Reliability display threshold are two parameters of the Reliability
Indicator function, in case the necessary data to compute the report are below a certain threshold,
the report will show in the relevant cell the percentage of data available, so as the operator can
understand the consistency of the data in the table. E.g. the report is aggregating data from hour
to day, there are only 18 hours available over 24 required, the aggregation occurs anyway but the
reliability index is 75% (the same happens in case of pre-aggregated data).

Dynamic Vs. Static MOIs

• Dynamic: drag and drop MOC/NA
– New instances of the same MOC will be added automatically
• Static: drag and drop Instances from Instances pane
– The list of MOIs will be static among time

Dynamic Static

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

ProAssure™ operators can create dynamic or static reports according to the specific needs, the
different approach relies on how the NE will be populated in the report. In the dynamic approach
the operator shall drag the MOC name from the NE Palette to the report (in this example the eCell
class is dragged in the report), the report shall be populated with all the current instances of that
class (in this example of the eCells) but whenever the report is open again, the list of instances is
automatically refreshed.
In the static approach the instances are dragged in the report directly from the Instances pane, in
this case the selection will be static even though all the instances have been selected.
Use case: create technology level reporting.

Set Busy Time

• Available for Day level report
granularities or above
• Display Busy Time or Value for a
selected calculation
• Requires Busy Hour/Busy Day setup
from Sys Admin
• Can also display calculations values at
one calculation busy hour/busy day

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The Busy Time is the timestamp when a calculation has reached the highest value in a pre-
configured time range (e.g. one day, one week), the Busy Time Value is the calculation value at the
Busy Time (i.e. the highest value recorded).
The Busy Time feature in a report allows displaying the Busy Time or Busy Time Value for any
calculation in the report; this type of processing is based on the data available in the system and it
requires that the system administrators have set the BH/BD management in the ICM for the
required calculations.
It is possible to assign Busy Hour and/or Busy Day calculations to counters (or formulae).
For Busy Hour calculations, the counters should have a time granularity less or equal to one hour
(60 minutes) in the table reports where they are used. For Busy Day calculations, these counters
should have a time granularity at least equal to an hour.
To identify the Busy Time for one calculation:
1. Right click on the calculation name in the report
2. Select Set Busy Time
3. Select the Time period among those available (e.g. Daily) then click >>
4. Select Display Busy Time to show the timestamp of the Busy Time then click >>
5. Select the NE entity type then click on OK
6. Calculate the report
It is also possible to set one Busy Time for all the calculations in the report:
1. Right click on the Calculation tab in the report
2. Select Set Busy Time for all
3. Select the Time Frame (e.g. Daily) then click on >>
4. Select the reference calculation then click on >>
5. Select the NE entity type then click on OK
6. Calculate the report
The report now shows the calculations values at the select calculation busy time.

Filtering the Instances: Regular Expressions

• Instance pane can be filtered using regular expressions
• Allows easier retrieval of specific instances
• Some examples:
^Cell[123] retrieves instances starting with Cell and any combination of 1, 2 or 3
Cell1, Cell2, Cell3, Cell25, Cell18, Cell39, Cell12…

(Munich)$ retrieves instances ending with Munich

MPLS_Router1_Munich, eCell_567_Munich, RNC_12_Munich

(^(AKL)(0200))|(^(CAL)(0200)) retrieves instances starting AKL or CAL and 0200

right after
AKL02008,AKL0200890,CAL0200ABCD,CAL02004567
© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The list of MO instances in the palette can be quite extensive, by right clicking on the Instance
pane column header it is possible to set a pre-defined or custom filter. A pre-defined filter is made
available according to the type of information available in the column (e.g. NE_Release) in case a
pre-defined filter is not available, it is possible to set a custom filter using regular expressions.
Regular expressions use specific character to denote how to include/exclude portions of string:
• | = the vertical bar is used to express alternatives value as in a OR expression (A | B).
• ( ) = brackets are used to define the scope of an expression within a more complex one (A | B)C
it will also set computation precedence as in algebra
• (string)? = zero or one occurrences of the preceding element
• (string)* = zero or more occurrences of the preceding element
• (string)+ = one or more occurrences of the preceding element
• ^(string) = the string is at the starting position in the elements
• (string)$ = the preceding string is at the end of the elements.
Some examples:
• RNC100 match exactly any element with the string ‘RNC100’ in the exact sequence
• ^RNC match all strings starting with RNC
• ^Cell[123] match all strings starting with Cell followed by 1 or 2 or 3
• ^Cell[1][2] match all strings starting with Cell followed by 1 then followed by 2 (e.g. Cell12,
Cell123, Cell12_Einsetein_Avenue, Cell129Test)
• Munich$ match all the strings ending with Munich
• (^(AKL)(0200)) | (^(CAL)(0200)) retrieves instances starting with AKL0200 or CAL0200 (note the
use of brackets to se the scope of the operands
• (?=.*^Cell)(?=.*22$) match all strings beginning with Cell and ending with 22

• Modifications are applied only to the selected chart
• Aesthetic and representation adjustments

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

To access a single graph configuration right click on the graph then select Settings → Local
Settings, among the different aesthetic adjustments available (titles, fonts, colours) there are some
interesting features that might be useful to highlight or adjust the data representation.
In the Axis tab use:
• X (axis) Label step: to state a gap between one label on the X axis and the next one, useful in
case of numeric values to reduce the number of labels and improve readability
• Y1 (Y axis, first calculation) Min/Max to set a minimum and top value to the scale, Step to define
the numeric distance between one label and the next one
• Y1, Threshold is the value on the Y axis that should be highlighted by a line (e.g. a QoS
indication, reference value) in this way it is extremely easy to spot non complying network
elements

Under the Range Marker tab it is possible to define areas on the different axis that will highlight a
group of values with a different background colour (e.g. range of correct operational values).

Analytical Graph
Features
• Chart distribution
• Chart data analysis tools
• Exporting charts

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

Graphs offers several data analytics tools to provide a better view of data or just to provide data
representation from a different point of view.

© MYCOM OSI - Confidential 97

PR-005-D EAA-ProAssure Desktop Client and Basic User Operations

Distributing your Charts

• Right click select Chart → Customize Distribution
• Calculation: for presentation of calculation data contained in the X or Y
Zones
• Z : for the presentation of any type of data contained in the Z Zone

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

What does it mean “distributing charts”? As in reports, charts are usually configured with multiple
instances for each zone (NEs, Time, Calculation), it would not be efficient to have all the data
representations in one single chart, so chart distribution allows customizing the generation of a
number of charts divided by calculations (or combinations of different calculations). It is also
possible to set a chart distribution by members in the Z area (e.g. Z area is populated with Days,
there will be one graph per each member with the relevant calculations and NE instances)

© MYCOM OSI - Confidential 98

PR-005-D EAA-ProAssure Desktop Client and Basic User Operations

Distribution by Z
• Create a separate chart for each element in the Z zone
• Each chart contains all the calculations specified in the graph
configuration

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

To access this option right click on one chart select Chart → Customize distribution
This feature is really effective when it is necessary to isolate each member in the Z zone and
represent the relevant values with an individual chart. Each chart shall contain all the members in
the X and Y zone (either they contain NEs, Time, Calculations).
On the other hand, when the distribution is disabled the operator can condense all the information
in one single graph, in this case could be useful to represent different calculations with a different
chart type and consider the Group by X function.

© MYCOM OSI - Confidential 101

PR-005-D EAA-ProAssure Desktop Client and Basic User Operations

Understanding Group by X
• When multiple items are in the Z Zone
• The X axis is automatically expanded and grouped by the items in the X Zone
• The graph below contains 6 Hours of Day in the X Zone
• The X axis is grouped by the 6 Hours of Day

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

Group by X is a useful function that helps the operator in sorting the results in a graph by grouping
them by each member in the X zone. When multiple items are in the Z zone (e.g. multiple KPIs) the
graph engine generates the results grouping them by each member in the Z zone, for instance, if
the Z zone is populated with KPIs and the X zone is populated with Hours of the Day, the graph
engine shall proceed displaying the results for the first KQI/SQI for all the members in the X zone,
then shall display the results for the second KQI/SQI and so forth.
Group by X changes this default behaviour, when activated, the focus changes on the members in
the X zone; using the previous example, the engine would display the results of all the KPIs for the
first member of the X zone (first Hour of Day, in the example), then it will proceed with the results
for the second Hour of Day.

© MYCOM OSI - Confidential 102

PR-005-D EAA-ProAssure Desktop Client and Basic User Operations

Group by X
• Group by X is selected • Group by X not selected
• Members in Z are grouped by every • Members in X are grouped by every
member in X member in Z
X1 X1 X1 X1 X2 X2 X2 X2 X1 X2 X3 X4 X1 X2 X3 X4
Z1 Z2 Z3 Z4 Z1 Z2 Z3 Z4 Z1 Z1 Z1 Z1 Z2 Z2 Z2 Z2

• Assuming Day in the X axis and • Assuming Day in the X axis and
Network Element in the Z Network Element in the Z

Day1 Day1 Day1 Day1 Day1 Day2 Day3 Day4 Day1 Day2 Day3 Day4
NE1 NE2 NE3 NE4 NE1 NE1 NE1 NE1 NE2 NE2 NE2 NE2

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

When Group by X is selected, members in the Z axis are grouped by every member in the X axis,
so, assuming the X axis is populated by Days and Z is populated with NE instances, the calculation
of each NE is grouped per Day.
When Group by X is unselected, members in the X axis are grouped by every member in the Z axis,
so, using the same example, the calculation of all Days are grouped per single NE instance.

• Rectangular selection, the selection mechanism is by dragging a rectangle in the chart,
capturing all the required elements
• Elliptic selection, the selection occurs dragging an ellipse
• Standard selection, the selection occurs by clicking on each element (use CTRL for multiple
selection)

When at least one element is selected in the graph, additional analytic tools become available in
the Network Element menu.
Roll-up/Drill-down allow to navigate the network element parent-child relations as in the table
report, once selected the current members in the X axis will be replaced by the new selections.
These two functions are also available by right clicking on each zone in the graph.
Target, as per the same function in the table reports, it replaces the current members in the X axis
with the neighbouring cells of the selected element. This feature is available for RAN elements
only.
Network Areas allows the creation/update of a network area with the current selection (see
Network Areas later in the course documentation).
Send to View use the current elements selection to generate a new table report, graph or GIS view
(where available).
Export as CSV exports selected elements as a CSV file on the Desktop Client host, the file contains
NE name, Vendor, Network Object (MOC) and Network Area (if the element is part of any).

Areas
• Logical container for NE instances
• Group elements by any logic
– Coverage Areas
– Airport Cells
– Railways and stations
– Corporate Customers
• Network Areas can be created
automatically or manually
• Four different types of area:
– Static
– Hierarchical
– Dynamic
– Conditional
• Can be used in reports/graph in place of
NE instances
• Can be used in Roll-Up/Drill-down
operations
© MYCOM OSI Confidential

A Network Area (NA) is a logical container of NE instances and other Network Areas.
The collection can follow any logic:
• Coverage Areas
• Airport Cells
• Motorways
• Railways and stations
• Corporate Customers
• Special Events
The network areas can be created automatically or manually, the creation method defines the
type:
• Static
• Hierarchical
• Dynamic
• Conditional
Network Areas can be used in reports and graphs in place of the NE instances they contain, the
report/graph engine will aggregate KQI/SQI data according to the NE aggregation rule in the metric
itself. It is possible to create, for instance, QoS reports by region/customer/technology rather than
having cryptic NE names in the report.
Network Areas can be used in roll-up and drill-down operations, if the element is part of a NA it is
possible to roll-up to the area itself or drill-down one NA into its individual members.

Static Network Areas

• Manually created
– From palette
– From a table report, graph or GIS view
• Group any NE instance:
– Worst performers
– Key customers
– Geographical areas
– Technology
• Static network areas are private but
can be shared
• Import/export options
• Can group elements from the same
MOC

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

Static Network Areas are created manually by the operator from the NE Palette or from a report,
graph or GIS view. They can be used to group NE instances by any logic or need: collect
problematic NEs for further analysis, group NEs serving key customers or areas, collect the
instances by technology (e.g. 2G, 3G, 4G, IP).
To define a new static area:
1. perform any selection in the NE Palette or in a report/graph
2. right-click on one of the selected elements
3. Select Network Area → Create (or Update to add the selec on to an exis ng area)
4. Enter the name for the new Area
Static Network Area members must be of the same Managed Object Class (e.g. eCell, RNC,
IPDevice), other options are not allowed.

Hierarchical Network Areas

• Can combine all the NA types under one umbrella label
• Collect different technologies/areas
• Used in reports with NEs from different Adaptors™

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

Hierarchical Network Areas (HNA) can combine all the NA types under one umbrella label. They
are very helpful in collecting different technologies and geographical areas under one single object.
In this example:
• The hierarchical area USA_HNA is collecting multiple HNAs (one for each state)
• The California_HNA object is collecting multiple HNAs (one for each administrative county in
the state)
• The Alpine_CA is a collection of static areas, one for each RAN technology in the county
• Alpine_3G is a static area grouping all the FddCells in the county
When included in the report, the HNA will provide the KQI/SQI value for all the children NEs, then
the values shall be aggregated according to the NE aggregation rule in the KQI/SQI. In the example,
the California_HNA is representing the aggregated KQI/SQI value for all the RAN technologies from
all the counties in the HNA.

Hierarchical NA
• Hierarchical NAs can be defined:
– From the client
– By file importation
• Several capabilities are available:
– Create, Edit, Delete, Share, Import/Export Hierarchical NA
– Possibility to navigate into report within the Hierarchy model either:
• To the n-1 children NAs (aggregated level)
• To the NE instances of a selected child NA at n-1 level
• To all the children NE instances at raw level

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

Operators can create one or more Hierarchical Network Areas (HNA) by importing the relevant
data as a bulk file.
To create a new HNA it is possible to export an existing HNA, make all the changes and re-import it
or it is possible to manually create the required CSV file.
Prerequisite:
The CSV file header must have the following format:
NE Name; NE Type; Network Area Name; Dimension Type; Create Type and Path
The CSV file shall contain the following information:
• NE Name: enter the name of the instance you want to associate to the hierarchical dimension
or the link you created.
Note: An Hierarchical Network Area can only contain existing network areas.
• NE Type: enter the MOC of the NE, e.g. eNodeB
• Network Area Name: enter the name of the Network Area.
• Dimension Type: use HIENA for hierarchical network area or STDNA for static network area
• Create Type: use DIM for Dimension creation (when the entity shall be created upon upload of
the file) or LNK for link creation (a link is when one area is already created but needs to be
integrated in the new HNA as a link)
• Path: enter the path that matches the location of the file in the Palette. The syntax must be the
following: FolderName/
Note: If two folders have similar names, they are not overwritten.

Note: when entering the NE and areas details use a bottom-up approach, first define the leaves of
the tree then proceed specifying the higher levels.

Structure of a Calculation
• Gran: minimum compatible time
instance
• NE Agg. : aggregation function in NE
hierarchy
• Time Aggreg.: aggregation function in
Time
• Acts on NE: minimum compatible NE
instance
• Unit: measuring unit

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

In order to understand how the attribute/raw counter/KPI works it is possible to take a look at its
setup in the Calculation palette.
Locate the KPI in the palette (use the Finder if need be) click on the KPI name, in the lower panel
the Desktop Client shall display the KPI structure.
The main elements to consider are:
• Gran: it is the minimum time granularity supported by the calculation at computation. Use of
lower granularities in reports/chart will cause the computation to fail (e.g. Gran is Hours and the
report is using Quarter_Hours). In the example the Gran value is Five_Minutes (the minimum)
• Acts on NE: it is the minimum MOC supported by the calculation (in the example is IpDevice)
the use of any child granularity (in this example IpInterface, CPU, Chassis, etc.) will cause the
computation to fail
Why the computation fails? Because the formula is using raw counters and/or KPIs which exists
only for that (minimum) granularities. At computation time the application would look for the
relevant flat files and the counters within, as the counters do not exist for smaller granularities the
computation simply would return no data. To prevent that the computation engine performs a
preliminary compatibility check between the report/graph setup and the KPI constraints (Do you
remember the warning sign in the computation log? Now you know the reason behind!).
• NE Agg: the aggregation function used to aggregate data from a smaller granularity to a higher
one (in the example, in case we rollup from IpDevice to Vendor or Network). In case the
calculation is an attribute or a raw counter, it is also the aggregation function used to generate
the raw counter values at higher granularities
• Time Aggreg.: the aggregation function used to aggregate data from a smaller granularity to a
higher one (for instance during a rollup from Five Minutes to Hour). In case the calculation is an
attribute or a raw counter, it is also the aggregation function used to generate the raw counter
values at higher granularities during the time pre-aggregation.

© MYCOM OSI - Confidential 126

PR-005-D EAA-ProAssure Desktop Client and Basic User Operations

• Unit: the measuring unit used along the calculation output, raw formula values are
automatically adjusted according to the unit used (e.g. if the Unit is GB the output of
1073741824 bytes is represented as 1 GB; an output of 536870912 bytes is represented as 0.5
GB)

IMPORTANT: the unit in the computation engine is employing a base-1024 computing for data
related units (1024 bit = 1 kbit, 1048576 bytes = 1MB).

PR-005-D EAA-ProAssure Desktop Client and Basic User Operations

Aggregation functions
• Effective in Time pre-aggregation and Roll-up function
• Data source is set of samples at smaller granularity
• Mathematical/Statistical
– Apply relevant function to samples
• String
– Compute strings output
– Simple_string returns string if all values are identical
– Concat concatenates values
• Count
– Count available/unavailable number of samples
• Time related
– Time series related

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

The aggregation functions set in a calculation are effective when the Time pre-aggregation is
triggered in the importation engine, or during a manual roll-up operation. The source of data is
always the samples at the smaller granularity (either Time or NE) that must be aggregated at the
higher granularity.
If the aggregation function is mathematical/statistical the function is simply applied to the set of
available samples. For instance, aggregating the data traffic from IpInterface to IpDevice, when the
function is Average will make the application to compute the average of all the data traffic at the
IpInterface level. Instead if the function is Max, the returned value will be the highest among those
at the IpInterface level. The same concept applies when aggregating in Time.
If the function is string-related the aggregation occurs in a different way according to the function:
• simple_string: returns one string value if all the strings at the lower granularity are identical, if
only one is different, it returns a cross (not computable)
• Concat_string: returns the concatenation of all strings at lower granularity
• Concat_uniq_string:
• Select_last_string: returns the last string value in the time series (e.g. aggregating from Hour to
Day, is the value at 23:00)
If the function is of Count type, it deals with the availability or not of the samples (not their
values), these functions always returns an integer:
• Count all: returns the number of all the samples at lower granularity (available+missing)
• Count missing: returns the number of the missing samples
• Count non missing: returns the number of all the available samples
If the function is Time related it deals with the time series:
• Select first: returns the value for the first sample in the time series (e.g. aggregating from
Quarter Hour to Hour returns the value for the sample ‘00-’15)
• Select last: returns the values for the last sample in the time series (using the same example, it
is going to be the value for the sample ‘45-’00)

Other Operations on Formulas

• Duplicate: creates an exact copy in the same location, need to modify the
long name before saving
• Pasting a copied formula appends the current directory name to the
formula name
• Deleting a formula used within another formula prompts a warning
message
• Profiling, Add a new alarm…, and Network planning require permission and
specific license
• Find applicable NEs… displays NE instances where the formula is applicable

• Use Send to View wizard to create a report, graph view using selected
formula
© MYCOM OSI Confidential

By right clicking on a formula in the palette it is possible to execute several other operations for
the general management of the formula. These functions are based on the user rights on the
folder.
Use Duplicate to create an exact copy of the selected formula in the same location, as the
duplicate has the same Long Name value, it is required to modify the value before saving. It is
viable option to modify an existing KPI for testing or further developments avoiding to lose the
existing formula.
Use Delete to remove the selected formula, the user will be warned if the formula is used within
another formula definition, removing the first one will make the other formula inoperative or
providing wrong/misleading results.
The option Profiling, Add a New Alarm and Network Planning are three distinct add-on
functionalities which are available according to the installed license and single user permission.
Find applicable NEs shall open a pop-up window displaying all the NE instances where the formula
is applicable to.
Send to View will send the selected formula(s) to a new view or a saved report/graph. Please note
that in this latter case the original KPIs shall be replaced by the current selection, this is a viable
option to re-use an existing configuration against different KPIs, just mind that the report name is
still the same, use File → Save As… to store the new report under a different name.

PR-005-D EAA-ProAssure Desktop Client and Basic User Operations

Pre-Aggregated Formulas
• Calculating complex KPIs on-the-fly can hit system resources and delay
report computation
• Such KPIs can be pre-aggregated
• KPI is automatically calculated at importation time and stored in the
flatfiles
• Upon computation data are simply retrieved from flatfiles rather than
calculated on-the-fly
• Pre-Aggregated formulas are derived from existing formulas

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

Calculating on-the-fly complex KPIs can delay report computation and, for composite KPIs applied
to a high number of entities, could hit the system resources (thus general application response).
The formula engine offers the capability of pre-aggregating formulas so as the KPI is computed
automatically upon raw data importation rather than on-the-fly. The result is stored and
aggregated in flat files likewise normal PM data. When a report employs the pre-aggregated
formula, the computation engine retrieves the information from the flat files in a straightforward
fashion.
To create a pre-aggregate formula:
1. Right click on an existing formula
2. Select Pre-Aggregated Formulae → Add
3. The formula editing window opens with an exact copy of the selected formula, operators are
required to modify the Long and Short Name fields
4. Click on Add

By clicking in one cell, the user can:

• Enter/amend annotations (see further in this course)
• Explore Trouble tickets/Faults associated to the NE instance/KPI (assuming the relevant
activations and configuration are done in the backend)
• Open the Alarm explorer and verify standing conditions on the relevant NE entity
• Execute roll-up/drill-down operations in the NE dimension
• Explore historical data, displaying a graph for KPI results in the last 24-48-72-168 hours
All the operations will be executed on a separate tab so the original report is quickly available for
immediate comparison of data.
The original report content is not modified anyway, changes are temporary and local to the user.
Use case scenario: one RNC is reporting poor KPI values, the operator can drill-down to the
FDDCell level to retrieve the managed cells, display the bottom N elements (in this case the worst
ones); then he/she could select the elements and activate the Alarm Explorer to identify any
standing issue on the NEs, then it could be useful to verify the historical data to identify if the
behaviour is in line with the past performance data. After this complete analysis it is possible to
open a ticket to the correct team to solve the issue.

The GIS View is an optional module and provides several tools which allows the user to quickly

The Time Slicer allows selecting a specific date and time, according to the time dimension
configured in the originating report (no changes allowed for dashboard reports).
The Google Search bar provides the well-known search features available in Google Maps™ so as
users can quickly jump to the area of interest, whether it is a geographical area, an administrative
area or a specific address or landmark.
The KPI Selection menu let switching the GIS representation from a KPI to another, according to
the KPIs included in the originating report.
The GIS Layers control box allows switching from a (Google) map layer to another as well as
activating or deactivating the representation of a given MOC; despite multiple MOCs can be
represented the KPI values shall be displayed only if the KPI is applicable to the MOC (e.g. one KPI
specifically designed for eNodeB devices does not return valid values if applied to an eCell MOC,
therefore there will be no representation on the GIS view).
The Interactive Map legend provides a simple and effective way of filtering data, by clicking on a
specific item the relevant representation is deactivated an removed from the view.
The GIS view aggregates multiple MOCs into a placeholder if the current level of zoom does not
allow an effective representation of the MOC icons, this clears the map representation avoiding
useless overlapping of icons.

In the example the Multi RAT view is not synchronized neither by KPI nor GIS, while the other two
views are synchronized by GIS, so they will retain the individual selection of the KPI but every time
a changes occurs in the coordinates or zoom level on one map, the changes are automatically
reflected on the other map. This configuration can be applied to as many views as required in any
combination of KPI and GIS synchronization.

The filtering toolbar in the alarm list helps the user to retrieve and focus only on the interesting
alarms, the user can combine the different tools independently just remember that the
parameters are joined by AND logic, so the list will show only those problems matching all the
filtering criteria.
The predefined alarm filter is the first step, the pull-down menu allows selecting one of the
predefined alarm filters (the definition of the filter itself is executed in the config menu as
described later in the course). Once selected, the list is automatically updated just with the
matching record.
The Search text field allows displaying only those problems which contains a certain text in the
details, no matter which one is containing the text (Problem ID, Related Object (Class), Related
Object (Instance), etc.), the text search occurs on the elements matching the Predefined problem
Filter.
In the example, the filter toolbar is showing the configuration of a filter using the predefined filter
“4G Data” (which filters in all the services containing belonging to that template), within the
results, it searches for the problems containing the string ‘BAYAN’. The filter has been manually
created in advance by one operator.
The multi-filter option allows combining multiple pre-defined filters, in order to configure this
option a separate window appears. If a multi-filter is configured the funnel icon turns red.
The Cancel filtering button allows removing all the above configured filters at once and the original
list of problems is reloaded.

The available commands span to cover all the requirements for a quick and easy management, to
start with those standard commands for the basic management:
• Acknowledge: the operator is now in charge of the problem
• Unacknowledge: the operator who has previously acknowledged the problem clears the
acknowledgment status to not acknowledged
• Clear: the problem is removed from the list. This command has a global effect.
Workflow related commands are helpful to reassign acknowledged problems to the correct owner,
to pass the work to the next shift or balance the workload.
• Assign To: reallocate one acknowledged problem to another operator
• Assign To me: reallocated to the operator one problem acknowledged by another operator

Manual problem Correlation

• Manually link problems to a root cause problem
• problems shall be grouped under the root problem
• Automatic correlation is only rule-based or policy-based

© MYCOM OSI Confidential

An problem causing several children events can be a very common event, unfortunately this means
a higher number of problems to be managed. It is possible to define rules or policies to manage
these situations automatically but the operator can also act with manual tools, to link the children
events to their root cause problems, so any operation executed on the root cause problem
propagates to the children problems. This is the manual problem correlation.
1. Identify the root cause problem and the relevant children problems, in the example an issue on
a line card is causing several issues on the hosted ports
2. Right click on the root cause event and select Correlate problem, the relevant pop-up window
will open
3. Go back to the problem list and select the children events that should be linked to the root
cause problem
4. Right click on the selection and click on Correlate problem, automatically all the selected

The Extended problem Properties (EAP) are configured by the NetExpert™ rules and policies
developers and they could be available or not according to the specific deployment.
If available, this window lists all the EAPs available in the system. By default, all EAPs are visible to
the users and this window shows them as selected. Deselect all EAPs (Toggle All) or just those
items you do not want visible to all users.
If there are no EAPs in your system, the EAP panel does not show.
