Diamond ring tops sale prices
ONCE again it was jewellery that
topped John Goodwin’s most
recent collective sale at the
Pavilion Room in Ledbury.
The sale attracted record atten-
dance both on viewing day and
on sale day itself with standing
room only in the sale room.
The wide range of buyers
included trade, specialist collec-
tors, enthusiastic amateurs and
members of the public.
The jewellery section was
towards the end of the sale and
was topped by a 2.2-carat dia-
mond solitaire ring which sold to
a telephone bidder at £6,000, no
doubt helped by its British
Gemology Institute certification.
A second, marginally larger dia-
mond, approximately 2.29 carats,
set as a pendant with gold neck-
lace, sold at £4,000. A much
smaller solitaire of approximately
1 carat achieved a hammer price
of £1,200.
A ladies gold Omega cocktail
watch achieved £410 against a
pre-sale estimate of £300. This
was topped by a gent’s Gubelin
gold watch at £450.
Despite gold prices having drift-
ed slightly from their peak, gold
sovereigns continue to attract
considerable demand and each of
the 14 sovereigns in the sale
achieved an identical hammer
price of £175.
With commodity prices still very
strong the silver section of the
sale performed exceptionally well
with top price in this section
