TITLE INTRODUCTION ECW341 SAFETY & HEALTH
OBJECTIVES
To build health and safety awareness between students and to ensure the
students know how to deal with health and safety related to fluid
mechanics, hydraulics, hydrology and water quality laboratory activities.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
PREAMBLE At the end of the laboratory works, students should be able to:
PROPER ATTIRE
Students ECW 341 must wear safety laboratory lab coat or appropriate
jacket while in the laboratory, even when they are not performing
experiments. Students with long hair should tie their hair back. Students
must wear close-toed shoes (safety shoes); sandals are not permitted and
appropriate PPE based to the types of laboratory activities.
PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES
Smoking, eating, drinking and chewing gum are never allowed in the
science lab. In addition, students should never perform unauthorized
experiments or enter storage rooms without an instructor's permission.
CONSIDERATIONS
Students should be taught to respect chemicals and experiments, not to
fear them. Instructors can help create a safe and positive environment by
explaining and demonstrating experiments and supervising students
properly.
