Interview Questions (tila)

1. Are the grammar rules presented with simple explanations?

The grammar rules are not presented with explanations. In fact, some of the
vocabularies are thought-provoking.

2. Why do you think the language contents don’t suit students’ needs?
The language content does not suit our Malaysian students need because the input is
not related to Malaysian context nor their daily life activities. Pupils might find
difficulty to comprehend or understand the meaning or concept of it. Pupils might
not be able to get a clear picture of what the word or situation really means as they
have not seen it, felt it or gone through it before.

3. Do you think the social and cultural contexts used in the book are comprehensible
for the students?
None of the content in the textbook covers Malaysian social or culture context. For
example, topic 6 Food, the foods gien in this topic are all relevant to the western
culture.

4. Can the students learn about the inner lives of the characters used in the book?
Students will not really be able to learn the inner lives of the characters used in this
book because of the differences in terms of environment, social and culture.

5. Does the book have a reasonable number of exercises?

The book does have a reasonable number of exercises but most of it are fill in the
blanks, matching, rearranging in correct orders & etc. There is very less focus given
on sentence construction and paragraph writing. Besides, there is no any part where
pupils are asked or guided to write in sentences.

6. Does the series provide models for final achievement test?

There is no final achievement for lower elementary students in Malaysian schools. In
my opinion, it would be good or much easier to evaluate student’s achievement,
knowledge and understanding if there is a list of questions covering the entire topic
at the end of every semester. Students will also feel and know the purpose of
studying.
