Progress I have made during this week

(Don’t forget to provide a breakdown of time spent on each item listed)

● Watched tutorials about making digital portfolios, then made and published a new
portfolio using boilerplate code and HTML that looks more professional and has been
updated to include the work I did this week- 3 hours
○ If I ever wanted to sell art and use a website to show my work, I’d be able to
modify this website and then use it
● Drew a rose using a photo as reference to practice shading and other drawing
techniques that I learned in the book- 3 hours
● Drew one of my old dogs (used a tutorial to help me get started)- 3 hours
● Working on Journal 6- 1 hour

What I need to move forward with my Capstone (time, space, materials, contacts)
● I need to spend time working on my Capstone Reflection Paper as well as planning
out and preparing for my presentation
● If I decide to create a video presentation I need to find and download screen
recording software as well as learn how to use it
● I do not need any additional space or materials to move forward with my Capstone
● I do not need to contact anyone to move forward with my Capstone (although I might
talk to some of my classmates to ask if they know of any good screen recording
software)

Obstacles I have encountered and how I’ve moved forward:

● One obstacle that I faced while working on my drawing of a rose is having trouble
drawing the rose with the correct amount of depth in areas (as in not knowing how
dark I should shade, etc.)
○ To move forward I put a black and white filter on the photo I was referencing
to help me get a better idea of how much pigment to add in certain areas,
which is a technique I will continue to use when trying to draw using a
photograph as reference
● I also had trouble getting started with the drawing of my dog
○ watching tutorials on drawings of dogs and looking at drawings of other dogs
helped me get started

Obstacles I can foresee in my next steps:

● Technical issues with screen recording may arise (since I will be trying out a new
screen recording software) so I need to make sure to plan ahead and leave buffer
time in case it takes me longer than expected to record my video
● I do not expect to have any issues with my Reflection Paper as I looked over the
questions and have a good idea of how I will answer them. However if I leave it for
later this week it might not be a good quality reflection paper. To make sure it's well
done I need to begin working on it early this week. Asking someone to read it over for
feedback before submitting it would also help me make sure my reflection paper is of
good quality
The skills I’ve used and what I’ve learned:
● I improved my ability to shade in drawings, especially through the rose drawing and
learned how to translate photographs into drawings
○ Drawing the edges and folds from the rose drawing was quite difficult for me
and knowing how dark to shade at certain areas was difficult for me at first
■ For example, I often didn’t shade as darkly as I needed to in certain
areas, but I went back over those places later on when I realized that
they could use some more pigment. I also went back with eraser to
lighten up some areas (in the evidence section there is a picture of the
rose drawing before I had darkened it as much I should have)
● I also improved my ability to code and learned how to make a professional portfolio
that I would be able to use and modify if I ever wanted to selling my work or even
applying for jobs that require portfolios (for some programming jobs it looks good to
have a nice digital portfolio to display coding projects that you worked on in the past)

My goals and deadlines for the next week:

● Jan 20th- have brainstorm for answers for each question of Capstone Reflection
Paper done, research about video editing and screen recording software
● Jan 21st- have rough draft of Capstone Reflection Paper done, practice learning how
to use the software and begin planning out the flow of my presentation (script, order
I’ll talk about things in)
● Jan 23rd- have good copy of Capstone Reflection Paper done, proofread by at least
one other person, and ready to submit, begin making presentation video
● Jan 26th- have presentation video complete and ready to go

My evidence of progress. This includes but is not limited to: diagrams, screenshots,
photos, videos, rough drafts, schedules, meeting notes, mind maps, etc
