1. Had Galileo dropped a cannonball from the Tower of Pisa, 179 ft above the ground, the ball’s
height above the ground t sec into the fall would have been s = 179 − 16t2 . About how long
would it have taken the ball to hit the ground? Also find the c-value in the conclusion of the
Mean Value Theorem and plot it.

2. Using MATLAB plot the the tangents to the curves y = sin 2x and y = − sin x2 at the origin.Is
there anything special about how the tangents are related? Give reasons for your answer.
