entitled Leading Character’s Antisocial Personality Disorder in James B Stewart’s

Blind Eye . Salawat and salam always be deliver to our great prophet and most noble

Messenger Muhammad SAW who has succeeded to bring us from stupid area to

goodness like we feel right now. So we are always on the right path.

ABSTRAK

Skripsi ini berjudul Leading Character’s Antisocial Personality Disorder in


James B Stewart’s Blind Eye yang merupakan suatu pembahasan mengenai
gangguan kepribadian yaitu gangguan kepribadian antisosial yang terdapat di dalam
tokoh utama novel tersebut, yaitu Dr. Michael Swango. Tujuan dari penulisan skripsi
ini adalah untuk mengetahui karakteristik pada Swango yang menunjukkan bahwa ia
memiliki gangguan kepribadian antisosial dan faktor-faktor penyebab ganguan
kepribadian tersebut. Penulis mengacu pada hasil penelitian dari APA (American
Psychiatric Association) yaitu DSM IV (Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorder IV, 4th edition, Text Revision) teori yang dikemukakan oleh Elly M Setiadi
and Usman Kolip. Adapun metode yang dipakai dalam menganalisis masalah dalam
skripsi ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Dan dari hasil analisis, penulis
memperoleh kesimpulan bahwa Swango memiliki karakteristik gangguan
kepribadian antisosial, seperti asosial, introver, berbohong, manipulasi, impulsif,
agresif, tidak bertanggung jawab, tidak memliki rasa bersalah dan empati, sering
melanggar hokum dan norma-norma, terobsesi dengan kematian yang keji dan
memiliki gangguan dari kecil. Gangguan yang dialami Swango dipengaruhi oleh
gangguan pada dirinya, faktor keturunan, faktor lingkungan, dan kegagalan dalam
mempelajari moral dikehidupan awalnya.

ABSTRACT

The title of this thesis isLeading Character’s Antisocial Personality Disorder in


James B Stewart’s Blind Eyethat is research about antisocial personality of leading
character in the novel, namely Dr. Michael Swango. The purpose of this thesis is to
find out characteristic of Swango that show he has antisocial personality disorder and
to know the causes of his disorder. The writer refers to theory antisocial personality
disorder that take in a research of APA (American Psychiatric Association) that is
DSM IV (Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder IV, 4th edition, Text
Revision) and quotation of Elly M Setiadi and Usman Kolip. The method that is
applied is descriptive qualitative. Based on research, the writer is found that Swango
has characterization of antisocial personality disorder as asocial, introvert, lying,
manipulative, impulsivity, aggressive, irresponsibility, lack of guilt, repeatedly
violation of law and norms, obsessed with violent death, and disorder personality
before 15 years. His personality disorder is caused by the existence of a metal
disorder, heredity factor, environmental factor, and failure to learn the moral and
ethical in his early life.
