Part I: Performance Analysis
Problem #1

a) Plot the Hodograph of the aircraft (from minimum to maximum speed)

b) From the Hodograph plot, determine the minimum glide angle and the minimum rate of descent
c) Using analytical method, find the minimum glide angle and the minimum rate of descent

Problem #2

a) Create the performance plot/diagram for the 3 different altitudes (in one graph)
b) Determine the maximum rate of climb for the 3 different altitudes
c) Determine the absolute ceiling and the service ceiling of the aircraft

Problem #3

a) Plot the boundaries of the Fan Diagram of the aircraft at sea level
b) From the Fan diagram, determine the turn radius, the airspeed, and the turn rate at the corner
point
c) Plot the curve where Pe=0 (zero excess power) in the Fan Diagram

Problem #4

a) Determine the maximum range in the following configurations: (i) MTOW with maximum
payload, (ii) MTOW maximum fuel, (iii) maximum fuel no payload
b) From the results in a) plot the Payload-Range diagram for the aircraft
c) Calculate endurance in configuration (ii)

 Runway elevation: sea level
 Rolling friction coefficient (asphalted runway): 0.02
 VLOF=1.2VS
 Load factor at lift-off: 1.1

Then

comments on the effect of runway surface.
c) Calculate the take-off distance with MTOW. Give your comments on the effect weight.
Problem #6

 Landing Weight: 4000 kg

 Runway elevation: sea level
 Braking friction coefficient: 0.4
 Maximum braking force: 0.35W
 VA =1.3VS
 VT= 1.15 VS
 Approach angle: 3 deg
 Load factor at flare: 1.2

Problem #7

a) Calculate the maximum speed for the Super Tucano, given the data above. How does the actual
maximum speed compare to your calculation?

maximum speed?
c) If we want to improve the maximum speed by 5%, what will you do to achieve this without
increasing the engine power? Explain your answer by plotting the trade-off curves for several lift
to drag ratio values.

Problem #8

a) Calculate the maximum rate of climb at sea level if you have not done so. How does the actual
maximum rate of climb compare to your calculation?

without increasing the engine power? Explain your answer by plotting the trade-off curves for
several lift to drag ratio values.
