Phonetic transcription deals with the phonemes. Phonetic transcription is no


more than a useful tool that phoneticians use in the description of speech. As a
general rule it is only necessary in written practical phonetic transcription to
have symbols for the phonemes. Each phonemes has its own symbol to
represent its sound in written form.
A phonemic transcription is one which all the different words in a language
are represented by smallest possible number of different symbols.
The simple transcription is transcription which uses the simplest IPA symbols
is those that use ordinary letters of Roman alphabet such as /a/ and /r/. More
exotic letters such as ɜ , dɜ , a and ð , I, ∫ convey greater phonetic detail. A
transcription using more unusual symbols is called a comparative
transcription.
