This is the End!

I remember stepping foot into this school with wide open eyes and butterflies. Now jump

forward to running into school because it's 7:29 and I need to be in my seat at 7:30. Yes, time did

fly by, but now it's time to move on. My time here has been full of many crazy moments, a

thrilling ride of ups and downs, and the hard work I have put in leading up to the day I, Lord

willing, walk up those steps, and receive my diploma(Hoping it's not with a mask on).

The past four years have been a very crazy and fun time for me. If anyone ran into me

and my friends, they would find out very quickly that we are crazy. Crazy beyond crazy; there

are countless stories and proof of this. Just this year, my friends and I made a Christmas card

explaining who we are like the typical family letter. Who even thinks of that? But, that is who we

are. We will bring monster drinks to school just so that we can laugh our brains out and have a

good time. Many might look at us as annoying, weird, and attention seeking, but we just simply

enjoy having a good time and making the most of our highschool years.

Another example of our craziness is how we all came to the first day of Senior year with

pink second grade pencil boxes and name tags on our lockers. Yes, it might be childish, but these

are the things we will look back on and laugh about. Years later, no one would remember or even

care what pencil box they had unless it was a bright pink one with lots of stickers on it. Finally, I

can’t even count how many times we were dying of laughter so much that our stomachs ached

about the dumbest things. I hope I always will remember the crazy years I had at Covenant.
Not only did I enjoy the craziness, but it was also a thrilling experience. When I think of

thrilling the first thought that jumps into my head is basketball. Ever since I was a small child I

enjoyed playing basketball. From the dribbling up the court, to the finally scoring, and the

competitiveness leading to a win. It was all amazing.

Throughout my four years of high school basketball there were many memories that

come to me. The first was when we were playing against our rivals, Calvin, it was an extremely

close game and I had just gotten fouled. Breathless, I stepped up to the free throw line knowing if

I didn’t make these two points that it could be the end for us. So, with not much confidence, I

stepped up and shot the ball. I still am shocked, but they both went in giving our team the last

burst of energy we needed. We had beat Calvin. Another game I remember vividly was, once

again, against Calvin. It was a boy’s Friday night game, so a ton of people came to watch. Since

I was a Junior post, and two seniors were also posts, I didn’t get to play very often. However,

one of them was sick, and it was my turn to play. That game was crazy. I just remember scoring

and having so much fun knowing my parents were watching.

Many more thrilling moments came when we would cry from laughter at team dinners,

pretend to work out in the mezzanine, and had water fights in the locker room leaving us to blow

dry the ground. Finally, just last year, we did something special for the Degram girls because

they had just lost their father to cancer. Making them part of our team on homecoming night, we

ran through the crazy long tunnel with the little girls leading the pack. It was an eye opening

experience for us and the girls, who taught me a valuable lesson. The gym was booming with

noise as everyone cheered us on. Something I most likely will never experience again due to

Covid-19 which brings me to my final adjective, which is hardworking.

Covenant was a blast, but also came with a lot of work. Especially due to Covid-19 there

were more obstacles to overcome. From the alarm clock blaring in my ears, to the two to three

hour long practices only to come home and finish all my homework and start over again

tomorrow. Some days, all I did was study for the three tests I had the next day. As most of us

know, good grades don’t just happen, but rather they require diligence, hard work, and effort.

I’m not saying I'm perfect, by no means, it took great self control to sit down and study for even

twenty minutes. However, it was all worth it. Looking back, I see the hard work I have put in

and, Lord willing, I can walk up the podium and be handed a diploma ready to begin a new

chapter in my life.

As I mentioned before, some days would be a three hour practice and quickly go home,

shower, and eat before I was off to Catechism, and then after getting home trying to finish my

homework. Basketball is a commitment that I will never regret making, but it does come with

hard work.

Looking back on my four years here at Covenant Christian High School, I see the many

blessings I have been given through the whole journey. Sure there were many moments of tears,

hurt, and exhaustion but overall it was an amazing experience. Especially this year I have come

to a better appreciation for my teachers, family, friends, coaches all who have supported me

through this journey. It will be hard to walk out these doors especially when things aren’t

“normal” anymore, with masks, social distancing, and only ten people. However, My God has

been faithful to me, and I pray for guidance and strength in the next chapter of my life.
