DIY MODERN

OUTDOOR DINING SET


This outdoor dining set is made from painted 2x4s
and hardwood deckboards.

TABLE
STEP 1: Cut and paint the pieces
I used a miter saw to cut the pieces to length. I lightly sanded the
pieces with an orbital sander before painting the 2x4 pieces with A

exterior grade paint. I stained the hardwood decking with a

transparent water proof stain. D

STEP 2: Screw the pieces together E


I used 3” long stainless steel screws to assemble the
frame of the table. I pre-drilled holes in the
2x4s to avoid splitting. B

STEP 3: Screw the legs on
I used 2-1/2” long stainless steel screws to assemble the

frame of the table. I pre-drilled holes in the 2x4s to avoid
splitting and used 4 screws per leg.

STEP 4: Screw the top on


I used 1-5/8” long stainless steel screws to screw the hardwood
decking to the frame. I pre-drilled counter sunk holes in the
hardwood decking to avoid splitting. I started with the outside
boards and let them overhang the legs by 1/4”. I then arranged
the inside boards so that they have even spacing.

BENCH
STEP 1: Cut and paint the pieces

STEP 2: Screw the pieces together
I used 3” long stainless steel screws to assemble the frame of
the table. I pre-drilled holes in the 2x4s to avoid splitting. G

STEP 3: Screw the legs on H
I used 2-1/2” long stainless steel screws to assemble the
frame of the table. I pre-drilled holes in the 2x4s to avoid splitting
and used 4 screws per leg. H

STEP 4: Screw supports between the legs


I used 3” long stainless steel screws to screw the supports between I
the legs of the bench.

STEP 5: Screw the top on
I used 1-5/8” long stainless steel screws to screw the hardwood
decking to the frame. I pre-drilled and counter sunk holes in the
hardwood decking to avoid splitting. I started with the outside boards
and let them overhang the legs by 1/4”. I then arranged the inside board
so that it has even spacing on both sides.
