Sum of Interior Angles of a Polygon

In a triangle, the

sum of all three interior
angles will be 180°.

In a quadrilateral or four sided polygon, all four sides can be divided into two
triangles. Given that there are two triangles with each having 180° the sum of all the
interior angles is
360°. Since the first
four sides of a
polygon is equivalent
to two triangles or
360° we must subtract
four from the number
of sides. However, 2
+ (s - 4) can be
simplified to (s - 2).

Using this
information, we can interpret the sum of interior angles for irregular shapes. The formula
for finding the sum of interior angles is # of sides minus 2 times 180 or (s - 2)180.
To put this formula into action, I attempted to find the sum of interior angles in a
12-sided polygon. I plugged 12 into s for the number sides and subtracted 2. Leaving me
with 10 times 180 which gives the solution of 1,800°. In conclusion, the sum of all
interior angles within a 12-sided polygon is 1,800°.
