Repairs
Repair any chips or hairline fractures using a high grade epoxy or Porcelain Chip Fix Porcelain Repair
from Homax® Products. Use according to manufacturer’s instructions.
• Allow repairs to dry completely, 24-36 hours.
• Humidity must be below 80% during application and dry time.
• Room temperature should be at or above 65° F (19° C) and not above 90° F (33°C).
Make sure there is adequate ventilation.
Step 1: Material Preparation
Remove the can marked COLD from the box and place it in the refrigerator, on the top shelf and out of the
reach of children. The can should remain in the refrigerator for approximately one hour.
Be sure to take any watches, bracelets or jewelry off. Wear gloves and protective
eyewear at all times when transferring and spraying product.
Step 3:
Submerge the can marked HOT completely in a sink of hot tap water (not to exceed 120°F) for 5-10
minutes, heating the can thoroughly.
Step 5: Masking
Mask and drape the surrounding areas of the surface to protect from overspray. Make sure to completely
cover drains, fixtures, walls and floors.
GENERAL PRECAUTIONS
When using this product, please remember:
WARNING! VAPORS AND AEROSOL MIST MAY TRAVEL THROUGH AIR AND IGNITE EXPLOSIVELY.
WARNING! DO NOT SMOKE.
WARNING! USE ONLY IN WELL VENTILATED AREA TO PREVENT BUILDUP OF VAPORS. KEEP
SPARKS, FLAME OR OTHER IGNITION SOURCES AWAY FROM WORK AREA.
WARNING! TURN OFF PILOT LIGHTS, STOVES, HEATERS OR OTHER SOURCES OF IGNITION
DURING USE AND UNTIL ALL VAPORS ARE GONE.
WARNING! HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED.
WARNING! AVOID BREATHING OF VAPOR. WEAR NIOSH APPROVED RESPIRATOR FOR
ORGANIC VAPORS, PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR AND GLOVES DURING MATERIAL
TRANSFER AND SPRAY APPLICATION.
WARNING! KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
HINTS
After allowing the material to sit for one hour, practice spraying (preferably outside)
on cardboard or wood for a few passes to get used to the spray.
Wear gloves, protective eyewear and respirator while spraying.
Step 6: Application Process
Tips For Success:
• Use even strokes 8" to 10" away from the surface, stopping at the end of
each stroke. (A good measurement is the approximately length of a
video case.)
• A light even coating, 3 - 4 mls (or paper thin), will give the best results.
• A thicker coat will result in sags, runs and increased dry time.
• Spraying more than 10" away will result in a less than desirable
"orange peel" effect.
• Check and wipe nozzle regularly for excess drips.
• If nozzle drips, use enclosed brush to smooth out the drip; or the drips
can be buffed outwhen dry and resprayed during the final coat.
• Start from the top of the surface, and work down as shown in the video.
Dry Time:
Let the surface cure for five days at temperatures between 65°F (19°C) and 90°F (33°C) to ensure a long
lasting porcelain-like finish. If the humidity is above 80%, or if the temperature is not in the set range, cure
time will be longer and problems with the finish may result
Surface Care:
To care for your new high-gloss, porcelain-like finish, use a non-abrasive, non-bleach cleaner.
Trouble Shooting:
Overspray - Can be cleaned up with acetone or lacquer thinner. DO NOT USE PAINT THINNER.
Surface is not smooth - Spraying too far away from the surface can result in a rough finish or orange peel
effect. Remember to spray an even 8" to 10" away from surface.
Runs or Drips - Spraying too close to the surface can result in runs and/or drips. Remember to spray an
even 8" to 10" away from surface.
If spray starts to sputter - Try removing nozzle and replacing it on the valve.
Non-Gloss Finish - Humidity above 80% can cause this problem.
Excessive dripping -
1. This may be caused by not enough pressure in the can. Place the can in warm water for five minutes, dry
the can completely and continue to spray.
2. Check the nozzle for blockage. Remove the nozzle, wipe clean and replace. If you continue to have a
problem, then replace with second nozzle.
Drips on the second coat -
1. If there are drips or spots, use the enclosed brush to smooth out the drip while wet and lightly respray.
(Or)
2. Let the drip dry Scour the drips thoroughly with steel wool. Wipe clean with a towel. Spray a little Tough
As Tile into a paper cup and using the enclosed brush, carefully repaint the spot.
Helpful Hints:
Covering a Dark Color - If you are covering a dark color, it is possible that you will need a third coat of
Tough As Tile. Make sure that the second coat is completely dry (24 hrs. at least).
(You may need to buy additional product for a third coat.)
Extra Debris - If there is still steel wool debris in the bottom of the tub, sink or toilet after the last scour,
wipe out with a wet towel and then dry thoroughly.
Toilets - When spraying a toilet, be sure to turn the water off at the valve. Empty the bowl and the tank, and
dry them both thoroughly. Tough As Tile needs a completely dry surface for proper adhesion.
Because of all the odd angles on a toilet, being careful to spray a light coat on the first coat is very
important.
