Sam Angelo: Chart of Shellac/Denatured Alcohol Mixture Ratio

The document provides a chart showing the ratio of shellac flakes to denatured alcohol for different mixture amounts. [1] It recommends starting with 1 pound of shellac flakes combined with 1 gallon of denatured alcohol as the simplest method. [2] For smaller batches, the chart shows how to reduce the amounts of each ingredient by half to achieve the desired mixture. [3] The chart lists the amounts of shellac flakes and denatured alcohol needed for mixtures ranging from one pound cut to three pound cut.

Chart of Shellac/Denatured alcohol mixture ratio:

The simplest method for “cutting” an accurate mixture is to start with 1 pound of shellac flakes combined
with 1 gallon of denatured alcohol.   For smaller batches, reduce each ingredient’s volume by ½ until the
desired amount is achieved.  Actually weighing each is not necessary.
