Standard Chemical Pumps
in Exotic Metals
SGL Group’s ISO 2858, NFE 4421 and DIN
24256 standard chemical pumps have a proven
record of exceptional reliability. All parts in contact
with corrosive media are made from exotic metals
such as titanium, Hastelloy, nickel alloys or zirco-
nium.
This ensures that the pumps are imper vious to liq-
uids and resistant to highly corrosive and thermal
stresses, depending on the process conditions and
fluids involved.
Capacities range from 2 to 3,000 m3/h and
discharge heads from 5 to 150 mCL.
2 1 3 4
Besides these standard types, we cater for special
requirements and develop pumps which can also
be used safely and reliably for more demanding
duties. In such cases, we work closely with our cus-
tomers. Our teams of experts analyze the required
liquid transfer and, on this basis, develop solutions
which optimally meet their requirements in terms of
performance, design and economy.

Titanium pump
1 Impeller
The impeller is assembled by welding massive ex-
otic metal parts together. It is fitted with back van-
es for optimum reliability, thus reducing the axial
forces on the pump and ensuring a controlled
pressure in the seal area. This assembly makes for 2 Pump volute
optimum service conditions. The cast iron or carbon steel external volute of the
pump casing is lined with exotic metal sheets (tita-
nium, Hastelloy, nickel alloys or zirconium) to
ensure appropriate corrosion resistance.

lubrication and good heat distribution. A constant-
level oiling system maintains a correct level and
allows visual checking.

Our standard chemical pumps are of the “back- by made much easier and safer. Moreover, the

Impeller Design
Open or Closed
We offer great flexibility of application in terms of
delivered flow rate and discharge head.

Impeller design
Closed impellers are designed for the transfer of
clean fluids. Pumps equipped with closed impellers
make for high discharge heads and good yields.
Open impellers are especially suited to the trans-
fer of loaded fluids. Pumps equipped with open
impellers make for lower discharge heads and
higher flow rates than pumps of the same type fit-
ted with closed impellers. Their yield is lower,
owing to the clearance between impeller and cas-
ing.

External diameter of closed

Mechanical Seals
Highly Reliable
Single mechanical seal
This is our standard seal design for exotic metal
pumps. It is suitable for clean corrosive fluids, non-
crystallizing fluids, temperatures up to 100°C and
pressures up to 16 bar.

For applications involving the risk of crystallization

an external flushing device can be added.

Our mechanical seals are designed to meet the lat-

est standards of quality and safety. All parts in con-
tact with the process fluid are highly resistant to
corrosive conditions and high temperatures.

The materials for our mechanical seals are chosen

Dual mechanical seal
on the basis of our experience to match the abra-
sion and corrosion characteristics of the pumped
fluid.

Dual mechanical seal (tandem or double)

Suitable for media containing solids or involving
the risk of crystallization. A must for applications
where leakage of toxic or corrosive media into the
environment must be avoided. Suitable for fluids
with low lubricating power, temperatures up to
200°C and pressures up to 16 bar.

Magnetic-Drive Chemical Pumps
in Exotic Metals

Exotic metal pumps are available with magnetic

drive. Their hydraulic characteristics are identical
to those given for standard pumps on the previous
pages. Exotic metal magnetic-drive pumps are
perfectly suited to the transfer of highly toxic or
hazardous media.

Maintenance ISO magnetic-drive pump

The absence of mechanical seals obviates the need
for maintenance and reduces the need for check-
ing. The number of wear parts is limited and no 1 2 Magnets
flushing fluid is required. The modular magnets are made of high-quality
samarium cobalt adapted to the installed power.
They are characterized by high density of magnet-
2 1 3 5 ic energy, resulting in a compact and efficient
drive.

Our magnetic-drive pumps are made absolutely
watertight by an exotic metal can.

4 Wetted bearings
Inside, wetted bearings made from massive pure
silicon carbide are lubricated by the pumped
liquid.

5 Oil-lubricated bearings
Outside, the oil-lubricated ball bearings ensure
that the drive magnet is properly centered when
rotating and guarantee that the bearing has a long
service life.

Quality Management
by Process Technology

As a manufacturer of carbon and graphite products, process equipment

and systems for the chemical industry and environmental protection tech-
nology, SGL Group maintains a targeted quality management system
designed to attain and meet the product quality standards demanded
by customers. Our quality management system meets the require-
ments of DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 and Pressure Equipment Directive
97/23/EC Annex III, Module H/H1 and has been certified by the
approved associations of DQS and TÜV SÜD. In process equipment
construction, Quality Management is responsible for the testing and
approval of semi-finished graphite products, impregnating resin, cement
components, outsourced parts, process equipment and components.

Heat exchanger during pressure testing

Synthetic resin impregnation, cementing and assembly

are all subject to continuous monitoring.
Appropriate marking of the semi-finished graphite prod-
ucts before and after synthetic resin impregnation, during
machining and thereafter until assembly of the complete
equipment or plant provides comprehensive evidence of the
semi-finished products employed. Consequently, they meet
the traceability requirement of specification AD 2000-Merk-
blatt N2 for pressure vessels made from electrographite and
hard burned carbon. The conditions for synthetic resin im-
pregnation of the semi-finished graphite products and those for
cementing of the components are stipulated, monitored and
checked.

Evidence of the quality characteristics of the material grades

employed, as required by specification AD 2000-Merkblatt
N2, is provided in a report issued by the testing laboratory
of TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH.
