Originally made for SNAG’s Exhibition in

Motion at the 2003 conference in San
Francisco (inset), Totem remains one of my
favorite pieces I’ve ever made. This oversized
brooch epitomizes many of the technical and
design elements that would become
signatures of my work in years to come,
including its sense of “frozen music” and use
of piano key ivory scrimshaw. With more than
100 solder joints, this labor-intensive piece
was forged and fabricated from many
individual pieces of Sterling sliver wire
and sheet. A collector’s item.

Astro Neckpiece
One-of-a-kind Neckpiece

The centerpiece of my first solo show, Astro is

the quintessential Mid-Century modern tribute
in my collection. Movement is both implied
and actual in the strong lines of this design,
punctuated by hand-carved solid walnut
“cabochons.” As with much of my
one-of-a-kind jewelry, this intricate piece
comprises dozens of individually-fabricated
elements arranged to create what I feel is a
balanced, joyous composition. It’s a true
statement piece and continues to be my
favorite neckpiece to date.

in their migrational dance in this hybrid
jewelry/wall piece. Set of three panels

When There is Nothing Left to Burn...
(You Have to Set Yourself on Fire)

The first in my “milagro” series (still in production), this

neckpiece is another milestone in my collected works. With its
bouquet of Strike Anywhere™ match heads gathered like
delicate rosettes, this milagro represents the heart waiting to
be ignited by love. As with many of my pieces, the title comes
from a favorite song lyric, which is delicately hand-engraved on
the back. The robust edge is knurled to facilitate ignition, but
an outside hand is needed to start the reaction.
