9.2 Special Features of vernacular architecture of Biratnagar


The Tharus build their houses with enough distance to each other for better life style
and proper air circulation. This is achieved by arranging houses in a single row along
the road with wide yard in front house which facilitates the penetration of air throughout
the house. These houses have high ceilings and walls made of mixture of mud, dung
and straw. These materials not only make the dwellings cool and comfortable in hot
climate of Terai region, but also easily repaired after damaged by the monsoon rain. A
