The outey circle represents 100%. The section between two axes represents a core skill in a subject, and the shaded region plots your performance on the skill The greater the height of the shaded section, the better the performance Understanding Skills The main difference between the ASSET(Assessment of Scholastic Skills through Educational Testing) tests and the regular school tests lies in the fact that ASSET tests are SKILL-BASED. Skills or competencies refer to specific abilities that a student develops. A skill-based test can be contrasted with a fact- or memory-based test. In the latter type of tests, the student is asked to recall or reproduce facts more often than to apply the concepts taught to them. However, most competitive exams, entrance tests as well as international admission tests (like the GRE) tend to be skill-based. This is because it is being widely appreciated that a student's understanding can be tested better with a skill-based test rather than a fact-based one. Facts and their recall are important; however, they should not be overemphasized and ASSET believes in this. You might be confusing it wth " week * which means * a period of seven days "in this sentence, we mean, " We clean our cycles once in seven days ." Therefore only option C is wrong in the sentence and is spett wrongly as i oes not match withthe meaning of the sentence. The word," cycles "is spelt correctly D: Only "neice "is spet wrongly. The correct speling is * niece words, * friend, height, piece " are spelt correctly B: The sound of "u"is the SAME as in“ mug "in the words, " must, munch, muscle *. Only in" music * the sound of "ut is the SAME as in” huge *. So only " music "has a different sound of “u" from the others. CC: Only in option C, the words, * whole " and * hol sentences show the correct meaning, i the words, * ‘changed places with each other. "The position of i and *e" got exchanged. All the other * are used in the correct places. In all the other options, the here *,* to" and "too" and " week * and " weak * CC: The word, * crane " has the same vowel sound as " grey *. The vowel sound of "crash" and " crack "is the same as, " back "or" rasii™ or* las". Although " grey " and * crew "both have an "e" in them, the sounds ofthe "e" ae diferent in ‘ath the words. The vowel Sound of "cfew-" sounds the Samo as " grow. D: Only D has a word with the wrong spelling. It is" because ". The letters " spelling mistake in any word in the sentences in A, Bor C. 7 and “u' are exchanged. There is no B: Only " gaurd " is spelt wrongly. The correct spelling is " guard *. The posi other words, "grunt, guest. guide " are spelt correctly. : You may be confused with the speliing of " calenda But you must remember that the correct spelling is" calendar of u" and "a" got exchanged. All the " as the ending sound is the same, whether itis, "er * or * ar and not" calender ". So option A is not the correct anwer. Maths Skill: Arithmetic operations: multiplication D: There are 5 stamps in a row. There are 6 rows in an album, So 6 rows can contain 5 +5+5+5+5 +5 stamps. 5 + §+5+5+545=6%5 And 6 x 5 is 30. 5 x 6 is also 90. Hence D is the answer. D: The monster in the figure has 4 hands. 2 such monsters will have 4 + 4 hands. 15 such monsters will have 4 + 4 + 4.4 (15 times). Adding 4 fifteen times is the same as 4 « 15, So 15 such monsters will have 4 * 15 hands. D: There are 4 circles each having § totfees. So there are 5 +5 +5 + 5 toffees. 5+ 5+5+5=4%5, And 4x5 = 20. So the given picture shows the fact that 4 x 5 = 20. ASK1=141414141,S05x1=5. Hence As the answer. CC: Ravi cannot recall the table of 4 and does not know what 4 eights are. 4 x 8 = 8 +8 + 8 + 8. So he can add 8 four times to get the answer, B: A tailor has to put § buttons on a shirt, He has to put 5 + 5 = 2 * 5 buttons on two shirts. How many buttons he will need for 12 shirts? 12 » § buttons, right? D: 4x 9= 36, 4 x 8 = 32. How much more than 32 is 962 4, right? Hence D is the answer and not A. B: 3 times 13 is the same as 13+ 13 + 13, And 13+ 13+ 1 than 13 and not 3 times 13. So A cannot be the answer. 3 * 19, which is 39. Hence 8 is the answer. 16 is 3 more Skill: Basic shapes and geometry D: You can clearly see that the cricket stadium and the football stadium are not triangles. Look at the base ball stadium. Can you see that one of its sides is curved, as if itis a part ofa circle? Also the corner at the top is also rounded. A triangle should have 3 straight sides. Its comers should not be rounded.
