Ujjala Ghoshal as on August 2018

Dr Ujjala Ghoshal received her graduate medical education from GSVM Medical college Kanpur
and did her Post Graduation (MD) in Microbiology from JLN Medical College, AMU Aligarh
where she served as a demonstrator and subsequently as lecturer. She joined NRS Medical
College Kolkata and there after SGPGIMS as senior resident and Senior Research Officer before
Joining as a faculty member.

She has more than twenty years of teaching and research experience and had guided more than
40 MD, DM, PhD, MDS and MSc Students. She is actively involved in telemedicine to help
medical education in various medical colleges and also Pan African Countries.

She received SERC Fast Track Proposal for Young Scientists from department of science
and technology (DST), Government of India on “Helicobacter pylori and gastric carcinogenesis:
Role of glutathione and glutathione S transferase polymorphism.” She is the principal
investigator of more than eleven projects from (DST, DBT, ICMR, UP-CST and SGPGI).
She received WHO-Fellowship” on communicable disease control in Ministry of Public health,
Dept of Communicable disease, Thailand from June 28th-July 16th 2009.She has also been
selected as member national Academy Of Medical Sciences and also as Fellow International
Medical Sciences Academy (FIMSA).

She has around 100 publications more than half of which are published in international journals.
(Max. impact factor: 10.75, Average citation index: 25.8), including original articles, reviews,
editorials and book chapters. She has presented more than 170 Papers in various national and
international conferences. She has delivered more than 40 lectures in various places including
Malaysia, Japan, Bangladesh, Spain and various places in India.

She is the reviewer of many International Journals including Journal of Clinical Microbiology
and Infection, Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences, Bio Med Research International, Journal
Of Public health, Indian journal Of Microbiology, Indian Journal of Gastroenterology, Journal
of Laboratory Physician, Journal of Tropical Parasitology, Indian Journal Of Medical
Microbiology to name a few. She holds various important positions in various academic societies
like Secretary General: Indian Academy of Tropical Parasitology, Secretary of Association of
Medical Microbiologists –UP Chapter and Secretary General of UP Chapter of Indian
Academy of Tropical Parasitology

She has received more than 30 Awards & Prizes including International Travel Grant from
Asian Pacific digestive Disease week 2016, at Kobe-Japan, IAMM Silver Jubilee prize and
Presidential award at Philippines. Presidential award at Asian Pacific digestive Disease week
2006, Nov 26th-29th in Cebu City, Phillipines (Gastric carcinogenesis and Helicobacter pylori:
Possible Role of Glutathione S Transferase Gene); IATP Fellow award by IATP for outstanding
contribution for advancement of tropical parasitology- 2015; IAMM Silver Jubilee Prize for
the Best Paper in Parasitology-2012 for the paper entitled “Association of disease outcome
with Genotype of Entamoeba histolytica using PCR amplification of tRNA linked short tandem
repeats; Second prize in Mycology and Parasitology at 4th annual UP chapter Conference of
Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists to name a few.

Current area of her research interest include Parasitology, GI Microbiology, Virology, Hospital
infection and Bacteriology
