B. Activity
Review
Okay yesterday we discuss about the
“Statement of Opinion”. Who among you
here can recall what is “Statement of An argument starts with a clear opinion
Opinion”? statement, also known as a claim or
proposition.
Okay, very good!

Opinion of Statement fall into three

categories, what then are the three
categories?

Please do not answer in chorus. Raise your

right hand if you want to answer. Sir, the three categories are the statement of
truth, statement of value, and statement of
policy.
Okay, very good that is correct!

Now, from these categories, namely the

statement of truth, statement of value, and
statement of policy. Who can elaborate the
three categories of statement?

Again, please do not answer in chorus, just

raise your hand if you want to answer. Sir, the statement of truth claim that
something is or not the case.
Ex. Despite what you might think, most
Okay, thank you, that is correct. hunters are friends of environment.

How about the statement of value? Sir, the statement of value claim that
something does or does not have worth.

not be done.

bur action to lower the toll of guns in
Philippines.

Motivation
I think class, you already mastered our lesson
yesterday, now, we will proceed to our next
lesson for this morning. But before that, I
have a question. In your own understanding,
what is message?

Any ideas class? Sir, for me, message is a conversation that

involve a speaker and a listener.
Okay, that is correct Thank you.

Any other Idea? Sir, message is a written text or oral

interaction that involves a sender and a
receiver.
Thank you, that is correct.

Who else that who want to share their ideas (The students are thinking)
on what is message?

Okay class, all of your answers are correct.

In addition to your answers class, message
can be verbal, written, or recorded
communication that sent to or left for a
recipient who cannot be contacted directly.
Other are conveyed through film, speech or
advertise.

Now class base from your answers, what do Sir, our lesson for this morning is about
you think is our lesson for this morning? message.

PRESENTATION

Class, this morning we are going to discuss

about the negative and positive message,
where, at the end of the lesson you will be
able to:

1. Determine the negative and positive

message from the given examples,
2. Write some text using negative and
positive statement; and
3. Recognize and understand the
essence of distinction of negative and
positive messages in the text.

Now class, that you already know what is

message,
I have short texts or messages here, and I
want you to read it and determine what are
they trying to convey.
Are you ready class? Yes, Sir.

(The teacher will now show the example

statements or messages to the students, and
let the students read and analyze it.)

1. Online learning in the Philippines is

not effective, because of the
country’s poor internet connection.

2. The Philippines Educational

Department implemented online class
successfully and effectively.

3. Covid-19 affected cases in the

Philippines is extremely rising.

4. In the Philippines the total number of

Covid-19 recoveries is higher than the
total number of deaths.

(The teacher will now call students to read

the statements)

(After the students read each statement the (The students read the statements)
teacher will now ask some questions,
regarding to the given text.)

Okay class, now that you already read the

four different statements now, I will ask you
some questions. Are you ready? Yes, Sir.

ANALYSIS & DISCUSSION

Okay class, what is your interpretation about
statement number 1? Or what does this
statement imply?

Please class, do not answer in chorus. Raise

your hand if you want to answer. Sir, the statement number 1 trying to say
that, because of poor internet connection the
online class in the Philippines is not effective.
Okay thank you.

How about statement number 2? How would

you interpret the statement number 2?

Again, raise your hand if you want to answer. Sir, statement number 2 say that, the online
class in the Philippines is successful and
effective.
Okay, thank you.

What about statement number 3? Sir, statement number 3 say that the covid-
19 affected cases is getting worst.

Okay thank you.

Now, last statement number 4. who can Sir, the statement number 4 say that the
interpret this statement? covid-19 total number recoveries is higher
than the total number of deaths.
Okay thank you.

All your answers class are correct.

Okay, now who can determine the negative Sir, the negative statements are number 1
statement or message from our examples? and 3.

Okay, how did you know? Sir, I determined that it is negative because
of the word “not effective” in statement
number 1 and the word “extremely rising” in
statement number 3. And also, by
understanding the message of the
statements.
Thank you, that is correct.
So class, in order to determine the message
or statement that it is negative, we should
always look for the words or phrase that
makes them negative, and also the meaning
or the sense of the whole statement.

Here are some examples.

1. Illegal drugs are dangerous to your

health.
2. We, the people living in Earth, are
destroying our planet.

So class, from these examples, can you

determine what words or phrase that makes
these statements negative? Sir, in example number 1 the word or phrase
that makes the statement negative is “illegal
drugs are dangerous to your health” from the
statement itself we can already determine
that it is negative, because it uses the words
“illegal” and “dangerous” which can result to
negative words.
Okay, thank you that is correct.

How about the example number 2 class? Sir, still the same with statement number 1,
in statement number 2, just understand the
sense of the statement or find words that can
help you to determine the effect of a
statement or message whether it is negative
or positive.
Thank you that is correct.

So class, in determining what did the text

trying to convey, we should always
understand the statement or look for words
that makes the meaning of the statement
negative.

Did you get what I mean class? Yes, Sir.

Okay now, who among you here can

determine the positive statement or message
from these examples?

Please do not answer in chorus. Sir, the positive statements are number 2 and
Raise your hands if you want to answer. 4.
Okay, how did you know that statements It is because of the meaning and the sense of
number 2 and 4 are positive statements? the statement Sir.

Okay that is correct, thank you.

Okay, can you give some words or phrases

that makes the example number 2 and 4 Sir, in example number 2, the words hat
positive statements? makes this statement positive is the
“successfully” and “effectively” and in
example number 4 is when you read and
understand the meaning of the statement
you will find out that it is a positive
statement or message.

Thank you, that is correct.

So class to determine a positive statement

class, we should understand the meaning of
the statement and find some words that can
result to positive statement or message.

This also have the same pattern on how to

find the negative statement.

By knowing these hints class, we can easily

determine the statement or message
whether it is positive or negative.

So, here are some examples of positive

statement class,

1. A kind person will always be good to

everyone.
2. Never hang out with bad people if
you want to live your life peacefully.

Now, from these examples class can you

determine what phrase or words that makes Sir, in example number 1, it is positive since
these examples positive? the statement understandably conveys a
positive message, not just by the words
which makes it positive. And in example
Thank you, that is correct. number 2 is also a positive message because
of the sense and meaning of the message
itself.
Thank you, that is correct.

So class, these are the ways to determined

what does the message trying to covey
whether It is positive message or negative
message.
Yes Sir.
Did you get me class?

GENERALIZATION

Because of the sense of the statement itself
How did you know that your example is a Sir, and also the phrase “refuse to follow the
negative statement or message? protocol” which means going against what
should be done and what is right.

Thank you, that is correct.

I think class that you already know and

understand our lesson for this morning lets
have a short exercise.

APPLICATION
I want you to write 5 positive and 5 negative
statements or messages, and explain what
makes your statements or messages become
positive or negative.

Valuing

(after the students finished the activity the

teacher will now ask a question about the
importance or essence of studying or
knowing the distinction of negative and
positive message.)

Class, let me ask you a question.

Why is it important to know the distinction of Sir, it is really important for us, so that we
the negative and the positive massage? can easily understand what message is being
conveyed in a text we are reading as to
whether it is a positive message or a negative
message.

Okay, thank you for your answer.

In addition to that class, It is very essential to

know the distinction of the positive and
negative message so that we can easily
determine what did the text or message
trying to convey. And also, in our daily living,
we can use it to communicate to everyone
around us effectively.
Yes Sir.
Did you get what I meant class?
