Week 2
MATH
● Oral Counting: Practice skip counting forward to 120 by 10s
● Find Number Groups: Say, “I see 3 birds on the fence and each bird has 2 wings—there are 6 wings. I
see 2 cars and each car has 4 wheels—that’s eight wheels all together.” Draw a picture and write the
total.
● Add them up!: When playing with small toys such as toy cars, blocks, crayons have your child take 2
handfuls. Count how many pieces are in each hand. Have your child hold their hands together and
figure out how many they have all together.
● Count them Down!: How many are in the bowl? Count the number of pieces in your bowl when you
are eating foods such as pretzels, grapes, or crackers. Stop and recount after you eat a few pieces.
Then, figure out how many are left in the bowl.
● Written Numbers: Practice writing numbers 0-120.
LITERACY
● Read a book: Read or listen to someone reading a book. Identify the main character.
● Speaking and Listening: Tell someone in your house about your favorite book.
● Writing: Draw a picture and write about what you did this week. Where did you go? Who were you
with? How did you feel?
● Grammar: Go on a parts of speech scavenger hunt. In a book, try to find two nouns, verbs, and
adjectives and record them on your paper.
● High Frequency Words: Continue to practice your high frequency words by reading, spelling, and
writing them in a sentence.
SCIENCE/PLTW
● Investigation: Bird Beaks! Fill a bowl with different shaped tiny objects (ex. Cheerios, Seeds, Rocks).
This represents the food. Try using a fork, knife, spoon, binder clip, and straw (folded in half) to pick up
the items. This represents your bird beak. How many pieces did you get with each beak? Which beak
was best for picking up each type of food? Make a data table to show your results.
● Classifying objects: Possible materials - 5 rocks, 10 crayons, 10 buttons, 3 pencils, 5 marbles, 4
cotton balls, 4 toy cars, 5 coins, 1 box. Put the items that are the same into piles. Organize all of your
items into groups. How many groups do you have? Put all of the items back into a box and dump them
out again. Can you think of another way to organize the items? Ex. can you organize by color, by size,
or by shape? Can you think of another way to organize the items?
● Comparing Parents and Offspring: Draw a baby animal with its parents. How is the baby animal
similar to its parents? How is it different?
● Making Observations: The Sun: Go outside when the sun is rising up in the sky. Draw an arrow with
chalk (or on paper) in that direction. Label it East. Go outside when the sun is setting in the sky. Draw
an arrow with chalk (or on paper) in that direction. Label it West. Draw how the sun moves in the sky
during the day.
● Making Observations: The Stars: Go outside at night. Draw a picture and write about what you see in
the sky. Go outside the next day. Look in the sky for those same things. Why do you think you can’t see
the stars during the daytime?

● What’s that sound?: Have a partner go into another room or turn their back. Select a non-breakable
item. Tap or shake the item until it makes a noise. Have your partner guess what the item is. Repeat
this for 5 items and then switch jobs.
SOCIAL STUDIES
● Geography/Civics: Draw a picture and write a sentence on how to take care of the environment.
● History: Think about your school day. Make a schedule to show a family member. Write down what
you do first, second, third, etc - as much as you can remember
● Civic Virtue: Describe your responsibilities at home and at school and why they are important
● Economics: Look at objects around your house and decide if they are “needs” or “wants”
● Community: Talk about what makes a good friend. Draw a picture of something you like to do with
friends.
SEL
● Play a game with a friend or a relative. After the game, talk about why it is okay to lose sometimes.
● Draw a picture of something that makes you laugh.
● Ask three people what their favorite candy is and tell them your favorite candy
● Read a book. Name one feeling/emotion one of the characters felt during the story.
● Calming activity: take 4 deep breaths and create a square with your fingers as you breathe, repeat 5
times

Specials: For each day we are out, please choose one of the specials listed below and complete that
assignment.
ART
● Using any materials you would like, choose one of the items below and complete the
assignment in your sketchbook. If you do not have your sketchbook, feel free to complete the
assignment on whatever paper you have available. Be sure to think about the concepts you
have learned in class and try to incorporate and identify them in your picture.
○ Thick and Thin Lines. Tactile Texture. Primary and Secondary Colors. Light, Medium,
and Dark Value. Organic and Geometric Shapes. Patterns. Overlapping.
P.E.
● Do 20 jumping jacks, 10 sit ups and 10 push ups
● Stand on one foot and count to 30, stand on the other foot and count to 30
MUSIC
● Listen to a song you have never heard before.
○ Using any materials you would like, create a picture about how it makes you feel on a
blank piece of paper.
○ Write 1 or 2 sentences about how the music makes you feel.
