Critical review of literature on workforce diversity

Summary:
Workforce diversity is defined as the heterogeneous of employees work in
the same organization. Now a days workforce diversity become important for both government
and private organization. Diversity helps in interactions and mobility which result in better
growth and development of economics and in organization. In this article mostly explain about
the aspects of diversity in Africa which focus on the diversity management.

Workforce diversity helps and improve the organizational effectiveness


because it refers various socio-culture within the organization. There are many factors which
effect on the diversity workforce like age , gender, religion, belief, education and etc. it is
difficult to manage the diversity its become a challenge for organizations. Mostly diversity is
known as hot button issue for many companies. In many aspects diversity is the competitive
advantage because it is creative approach for problem solving. In Africa now liberalization
phenomenon is started. In united state there is discrimination in men and woman pay. There are
many benefits of diversity management for example more effective in interaction process and job
performance, competitive advantage, higher creativity, innovation. The organization who follow
the diversity can understand better customers needs. Now a days economies are shifting from
manufacturing to services. Diversity helps in communication on globalization level.

There are many ways to manage the workforce diversity like performance
standard must be clear, diversity feedback discussions, training and development program,
negotiate the diverse workforce, mentoring programs, assessment of ones beliefs about work
values, creation of support system to reduce isolation and discrimination. As the advantages are
discussed there are disadvantages of diversity workforce like threatened of working with other
peoples of different culture. Second increase in the cost of training to reduce the problems in
workforce diversity. Workforce increase the conflicts between the employees like stereotyping,
prejudice feelings , lack of acceptance. Third disadvantage is increase in labor turnover and
absenteeism at workplace. Diversity which is not manage properly can effect the employee
satisfaction and productivity.
