Chapter Log: Love, Love, Love Alone

 Ms. Hilton passes away. Her house is put for sale.


 The people that moves in cause a stir in Miguel Street.
 Mrs. Hereira develops a friendship with the narrator’s mother because she would constantly go
to their house for refuge.
 The men of Miguel Street decided to beat Toni, but later realized that it was worthless.
 After Toni let the dog attack Mrs. Hereira, she finally decides to leave him, but leaves him a
week supplies for him.

Vocabulary

 jostle: push, elbow, or bump against (someone) roughly, typically in a crowd.


 fussing: move around or busy oneself restlessly.
 coarse: (of a person or their speech) rude, crude, or vulgar.

 relapse: going back to oneself. Becoming yourself again.

Figures of Speech

 Simile: He bayed like a dog and bawled like a baby.


I thought he was like an animal, like his dog.
It looked as big as a ram goat and as vicious as a bull.
But he ugly like hell.
 Alliteration: She pretty-pretty.
Why, why a woman want.
 Metaphor: The thin and wrinkled hands looked so frail and sad.
