INTRODUCTION
There are more than 17 sororities and fraternities situated in the Philippines
Diliman campus. Each one dedicated to uphold their existence and honor
through producing quality citizens. And each quality citizens, to be essential
blocks in nation building, academic excellence and community development.
However, normal students do not easily become part of a brotherhood or a
sorority. Various initiation rites and admission prerequisites are necessary to
test, build-up and welcome recruits, commonly known as hazing.
Once again, upon recent years, the existence of the fraternity community
was questioned when a National College of Public Administration and
Governance (NCPAG) student, named Cris Anthony Mendez, died while in
fraternity hazing rites of the Sigma Rho fraternity. Various television reports
arose nationwide that caused great buzz to question the concept of hazing.
1
I find the concept of physical hazing very unnecessary especially as I am not
part of a fraternity. It is not about the fear of physical pain, but the possibility
of death in the process. One bad hit with a piece of wood can hit a nerve and
paralysis is a chance to take.
The main purpose of this study is to explain the causes and effects of
Fraternity Hazing to the teenagers and Filipino Youth on the Philippines.
This paper will discuss the overall implications of hazing that facing of
our teenagers in such school that have fraternities. It will also show the forms
of sororities that affects our community. It will discuss the case and problems
against the hazing of fraternities or sororities on our School Universities.
