MARINE ENERGY MUNICIPAL INDUSTRIAL
Type ECS Ejector-Venturi, Packed Tower
Ejector-Driven Emergency Gas Scrubber
The ECS is a standard ejector-venturi, packed tower system
which has been widely applied throughout industry for
the absorption of various gases including chlorine. Fans
are not required as the highly reliable ejector-venturi
scrubber entrains the contaminated gas and causes air
movement through the system. The first stage venturi is
well suited to handle the high initial concentrations of
chlorine gas. After the gas exits the venturi, the caustic is
disengaged and contained within the separator. The gas
then passes through the packed tower where the chlorine H
concentration is reduced to a level below that required by
the prevailing fire codes. A recirculation pump supplies the
required caustic solution to the ejector-venturi scrubber
and the packed tower.
De Nora Water Technologies (DNWT) has full scale tested
the ECS 3000 for a 2000 pound chlorine release at a rate
of 425 lb/min with a full 3000 cfm scrubber exhaust rate.
The chlorine concentration at the exit of the system did
not exceed 0.3 ppm at any time during the test.
The flow of liquid and gas is both co-current and counter-
current with a liquid rate to each stage matched to
absorption performance. This precludes the possibility of
caustic starvation. The system has the capability to handle
L
the worse case release rate of liquid chlorine based on W
total vaporization of the chlorine.
DNWT designs the ECS 250 to neutralize a 150 pound
chlorine cylinder at a continuous leak rate of up to
20 lb/min. The ECS 3000 and 5000 are designed to
neutralize a one ton portable tank with a leak rate of up Dimensions
to 437 lb/min throughout the leak event. An ECS 5000 Model Weight

Type SW - SideWinder
Ejector-Driven Emergency Gas Scrubber
The SideWinder (SW) is a low profile version of the proven
ECS Ejector-Venturi, Packed Tower Emergency Chlorine
Scrubber. To reduce height, the venturi is laid on its side
and the packed tower is divided into three shorter towers.
The towers and venturi are mounted on a rectangular
caustic storage tank, thus reducing the total height of the
SW to about half that of the ECS. The caustic required for
neutralization of the chlorine is contained within the lower
section of the tank. A vertical sealless recirculation pump
supplies caustic solution to the ejector-venturi scrubber
and packed towers. System configurations include either
one or two pumps to provide for redundancy of moving
parts. Performance of the system is essentially identical to
that of the ECS.
Advantages of the system include a low profile, co-current
and counter-current flow design. The liquid rate to each
contactor is matched to the absorption performance, so
there is no possibility of caustic starvation. Like the ECS,
the SideWinder has the capability to handle the worst
case release rate of liquid chlorine based on total
vaporization of the chlorine while lowering the outlet
chlorine concentration to below the level required by
the prevailing fire codes.

Type MVP Multi Venturi Packless
Fan-Driven Emergency Gas Scrubber
At only 8' tall, the fan-driven Multi Venturi Packless (MVP) B
scrubber is De Nora Water Technologies’ lowest profile
A
emergency chlorine scrubber. The fan-driven MVP 3000
system consists of six venturis in series with a downstream
fan which keeps the entire scrubber system under a
negative pressure. Even with fan failure, the venturis will H
provide a system capacity of about 2/3 of the rated
capacity, or 2000 cfm for a 3000 cfm system.
The MVP is a low total horsepower system with a low
liquid caustic pressure. Liquid and gas flow are co-current
with a liquid rate to each stage matched to absorption
performance, so there is no possibility of caustic starvation.
The caustic solution is supplied to each of the six venturi L
stages by a vertical sealless recirculation pump. The system
W
is available with either one or two pumps.
Advantages of the system include the capability to handle
the worst case release rate of liquid chlorine based on total
vaporization of the chlorine. The chlorine concentration

packing in the system, less surface area is available for (Inlet) (Outlet)
carbonate buildup during down periods. Therefore, a

Type ESW - Ejectorless SideWinder
Fan-Driven Emergency Gas Scrubber
The Ejectorless SideWinder (ESW) is a low profile three
packed tower system with a downstream fan that keeps
the entire scrubber system under a negative pressure.
The ESW has a low caustic liquid pressure, and it is the
lowest horsepower system available from De Nora Water
Technologies. Co-current and counter-current flow design
is used with a liquid rate to each contactor matched to
absorption performance. This eliminates the possibility of
caustic starvation. The system is capable of handling the
worst case release rate of liquid chlorine based on total
vaporization of the chlorine while lowering the outlet
chlorine concentration to below the level required by the
prevailing fire codes. A total combined motor horsepower
of 15 HP for the pump and fan is all that is required for the
ESW 3000. One or two pump designs are available.
De Nora Water Technologies designs the ESW 3000 and
5000 to neutralize a one ton chlorine portable tank at a
fusible plug leak rate of up to 437 lb/min throughout the
leak event.

Type EPT Emergency Packed Tower
Fan-driven Emergency Gas Scrubber
The Emergency Packed Tower (EPT) scrubber system is
B
the lowest priced wet scrubber option for this service
built with durable industrial fiberglass reinforced resins
incorporating layers of internal corrosion barriers. Both
the positive pressure “forced-draft” and negative pressure
“induced-draft” styles are available. The “forced-draft”
orientation is less expensive as it eliminates the need for a
discharge duct and a tall ground mounted exhaust stack.
The “induced-draft” style with the fan mounted on the
tower exhaust maintains a slight vacuum through the H
scrubber system, providing further assurances against gas A
breaching containment.
The upward gas flow in the tower is always counter-
current to the spray nozzle delivered caustic soda liquid
flow, best utilizing the high-performance plastic packing.
This single-stage design eliminates the need to balance
liquid flows to meet chemical demand as necessary in
multi-stage scrubbers to avoid caustic starvation. The
high-profile scrubber exhibits excellent gas removal
efficiencies able to meet the prevailing code requirements
while employing low caustic pressure and low horsepower L W
consumption to absorb over 99.99% of contaminant gas
from the air.
The EPT 250 is designed to neutralize a 150-pound
chlorine cylinder at a continuous leak rate of up to 20 lb/
min. The EPT 1500 is designed to neutralize a one-ton
portable tank for a one hour release. The EPT 3000 and
