FINAL NEGOTIATIONS – PHASE I

A walking path that follows the historic route of Abraham, a central figure in Christianity,
Judaism, and Islam offers both more meaningful tourism and an innovative approach to
development. More than 4,000 people have hiked the trail in the past 6 years, which allows
walkers to visit areas outside the cultural mainstream and engage more closely with local
populations, all the while creating business opportunities for marginalized communities.

API and adventure filmmakers agree on the following terms

1. The countries for the national trail shall be Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Israel.
2. The brand of the thru-hike event shall be the adventure filmmaker as it has the highest
stakes in the initiative.

Jordan because it is at a strategic position geographically as Jordan, an Arab country in

southwest Asia, shares its borders with Syria (to the north), with Iraq (to the northwest),
Palestine and Israel (to the west), and with Saudi Arabia (to the east & south). Last year, API
sponsored a study tour with students from UK with students from Jordan’s University of
Yarmouk. The visit culminated with a festival celebrating the landscape and cultural heritage
of Jordan.
Saudi Arabia because it serves 5 broad objectives that are safety, security, environmental
protection, and sustainability in global oil and natural gas operations.
Iraq because it provides landscapes that were once part of ancient Mesopotamia, so the route
traverses a very long cultural timeline on its way across the southwest flanks of the Zagros
range. Further, it is interesting to see this trail unfolding in a place which is still considered by
many as inaccessible, or simply too dangerous to visit.
Israel because it will represent peace due to the recent agreement between Israel and UAE that
took place in 2020. Thus, elucidating to the world that Middle East countries are not all about
civil unrest. They are culturally rich in their heritage as there are several sites related to
Abraham like the well in Be’er Sheva. This, coupled with the prominent story of Abraham in
the Torah as well as other local traditions in Israel like the Bedouin makes the path a potentially
powerful concept in this country.

allowed Israeli commercial planes to use its air airspace.
3. There is already a peace agreement between Israel and Jordan.
