____BIOADSORBENT PROCESSING MACHINE____

Title of Thesis

Brief Rationale
The waste generation of the Philippines continues to rise with population growth, improved
living standards, fast economic growth, and industrialization in metropolitan regions.
Biodegradable waste accounts for approximately half (52.31%) of Municipal Solid Waste,
although primary data indicates that figures range from 30 to 78%. Bio-waste materials were
assessed as metal-ion adsorbents in aqueous solutions. Various bio-wastes exhibit good
adsorption potential for Cadmium, Lead, Copper, Zinc, and Nickel. Biosorption can be used as
a cost-effective and efficient method for removing toxic heavy metals from wastewater. With
the abundance of availability of bio-waste in the country, the researchers come up with the
idea of designing and fabricating a Bioadsorbent Processing Machine that will process bio-
waste that are capable of being a sorbent. These bio-waste are sugarcane bagasse, orange
peel and green tea leaves.

Objectives:

The objective of the machine is to fabricate a Bioadsorbent Processing Machine that will dry
and pulverize bio-waste to make it as a sorbent. Processed bio-waste can be used as an
adsorbent to hard metals and dyes from aqueous solutions coming from industrial
companies.
Methodology
The transformation of the bio-waste into a bioadsorbent involves two different process; 1.)
heating and, 2.) grinding. The bio-waste needs to be washed before the heating process to
make sure that there is no other material will be involved on to the next process. Heating up
the washed bio-waste will eliminate its moisture content when it reached its temperature of
drying. At last, the grinding of the processed bio-waste will make it pulverized for excellent
absorption.
