Session 10 – Organizational Structure

Sir taught an amazing meaning of the poem ""Jack and Jill"" which I could never thought of. I
learned that sometimes we do hard work still we fail as what goes up falls. I learned that never
dependent on anybody, they will push you away. When you fall and hurt rather than expect
anyone to help you must learn to help yourself. When we don’t understand something we show
our defensive behaviour. We behave dumb, we always kept our real face behind the mask.
Then sir taught the concept of power based on Thomas Greens case. From that case what I
observed that frank Davis is a person who values team work where Thomas makes decisions
based on his feelings. He disrespect of legitimate power as he openly criticized Davis’s
proposal and didn't answer his calls. Here also comes the term Centralisation structure where
top-level managers makes decisions. Three most important elements of structure Complexity,
Centralization and Formalization I understood from Mintzberg organizational Configurations
and Matrix structure. Proper Organization structure helps management to determines most
efficient structure of their organization based on its goal and market. Manager can learn that
hoe should be setting up their operation. For example Starbucks follows Matrix organization
structure. Starbucks grown significantly in years only because of its organizational structure.
They enusure that the structure matches its current business success. It’s structure plays a big
role in its product’s innovation.

Session 11- Organizational Culture

This session started with an interesting poll where I got to know that do I know the reason
behind the things I do in my life and I realised no. I don't know..!! Some things I do because
it's my own family culture or it should be done like that only as per society's norms. Our culture
decides what we do and how we should do. Same things happen in organization culture. It is a
system, shared beliefs and values established by the leader or all the members of that
organization. In every religion we follow different cultures as Hindus wear white clothes on
death ceremony while Christian wear white clothes on marriage ceremony. That's define
individual culture and identify individual member. Same as organization in every organisation
people follow different culture which provides boundaries and guidelines to shape employees
behaviour. Organization culture defines how strong or weak is the organization. For an example
if I don't know the logical reason or principal behind any superstition or culture that my family
follows I'll not follow them. Same in Organization culture if employees don't get proper
guidance or principal to do their work, they will unable to fulfil their commitments,
organisation’s goal. As you showed that ultimate core values clip which shows that from day
one at Ultimate Software, they have built a culture of trust, respect and care for all employees,
where employees come first. Every day employees set fundamental values like selfless,
thinkers, ruthless, united, Nimble and genuine stands for together they support Ultimate
S.T.R.O.N.G. As I know that as much as you comfortable and Frank with your parents defines
your strong relationship with them. Same in Organization - as much as you follow good culture
defines your strong relationship with your employees and opens the door of the success.

Session 12 – Managing Transformation

My understating from this session is that change is very important in organization. Looking
into Lewin’s change model we should learn that we need to accept new norm and get old terms
out. One thing that I realised from this session is that we always run away from new change.
We don’t try to adjust. Personally I always try to adjust according to situations but in
something’s I don’t accept and compromise because I don’t want to get out from my comfort
zone. I can relate this thing with recently released movie Gunjan Saxena which portrayed that
how male cannot accept female boss. She was the first women to join Indian Air force. When
she ask her male boss that why they do not have women restroom and she got an answer like
“Because we don’t need it”. She was very smart and dedicate towards her work but no one
wanted to practice with her because they thought that women can’t manage to fly, they will die
they go with her. They started ignore her. After this all when she got a success by her hard and
proved herself then also no one wanted to accept her because they thought that Female can’t
be superior amongst all male. People don’t want to change they always want things according
to them which is not right. Same thing we used to do when it comes to gender other than male
and female. Most of the organization don’t accept them. They should understand that person
should be qualify by his/her work and knowledge as transformation is very important for an
individual as well as organization’s growth.
