Let A = {1, 2, 3, 4}, B = {2, 3, 5}, C = {φ}.
Please answer the following questions.

1.Is C an empty set? Justify your answer.

Answer :-

The.empty set is denoted by the symbol φ or

{ }. So, , C is not an empty set as it has phi as element in it. Therefore its cardinality is 1.

2.Write all the subsets of the set B.

Answer :-

C ⊂ B as φ is a subset of every set

A ⊄ B as 4 ∈ A and 4 ∉ B

Subsets of B are:-
● containing 1 elements each {2},{3},{5}
● containing 2 elements each {2,3},{2,5},{3,5}
● containing 3 elements each {2,3,5}
● So, Therefore number of all possible subsets of B is 8.

3. Find

• A ∩ B = {2,3}

• A ∪ B = {1,2,3,4,5}
• B ∩ C = { φ}

4. What is the cardinality of the set {φ, {φ}}?

Answer :-

{∅, {∅}} denotes by extension a nonempty set containing ∅ and the singleton { ∅}; each
of these sets are elements of our set, if we have 2 sets in our set, we have a set with 2
elements.So, .The cardinality of set {φ, {φ}} is 2 .
