• An Adjective is a word which modifies

the meaning of noun and pronoun.


• Example: There is a wooden box in the
room.
• Wooden is an Adjective.
ADJECTIVE • Adjectives can be used before or after
noun.
• Descriptive Adjectives.
• Descriptive :
These Adjectives describe quality of nouns and pronouns.
Descriptive Adjectives are most commonly what we think
of Adjectives.
• Examples :
• Small ,tall beautiful, short
Types Of These are of two types :

Adjectives • Attributive Adjectives: Adjectives which attribute a


quality to a noun .These appear beside and most
commonly before nouns.
• Examples: The flowers have a nice fragrance.
• Predicate Adjectives:
These Adjectives which appear after a linking verb are predicate Adjectives
because they form part of a predicate ( a part of sentence or clause stating
something about subject)
• Examples: Apples taste sweet and delicious
Limiting Adjectives:
These Adjectives according to their name limit the noun being described.
These are of nine types.

• Possessive

• Demonstrative
Interrogative
Cardinal
• Indefinite
Ordinal
Proper

1. Positive( no comparison)
2. Comparative ( comparison between two things)
3. Superlative ( comparison of one thing to whole class.

➢Ali is tallest of all class.
• Order Of Adjectives

• In English ,when more than one Adjectives are used in


sentence than an order is maintained hence there is an
order for adjectives .

✓Origin
✓Material
✓Purpose
Example: A beautiful small round old blue French cotton tablecloth.
Adjectives With Ed and Ing Form
▪ Adjectives formed from verbs using ing show cause or reason for a
thing..
▪ Adjectives formed from verbs with ed form show effect or result.
• Example: The movie was boring so we were bored.
