Dear Mr COLINS KIPLANGAT,

RE: ADMISSION OFFER - REGISTRATION NUMBER EMCI/01807/2019 AND COURSE CODE EMCI/2019

Congratulations! I am delighted to inform you that you have been accepted for admission to study a course
leading to the award of BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY (CHEMICAL ENGINEERING) for the academic year
2019/2020 at the Technical University of Kenya’s Department of CHEMICAL AND PROCESS
ENGINEERING of the School of CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEERING in the Faculty
of ENGINEERING AND THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT. Your acceptance is in recognition of your outstanding
academic accomplishments and our confidence in your ability to succeed at TU-K.

This offer is made on the basis of your qualifications which are subject to verification by the University
authorities. You will therefore be expected to provide the original KCSE certificate or result slip and a certified
copy of the same for verification. You will also be expected to identify yourself by producing the original National
Identity Card/Passport. Any information which may be found to be untrue will automatically lead to your
disqualification and possible expulsion from the University.

On behalf of The Technical University of Kenya, I wish to welcome you to our institution whose motto is
"Education and Training for the Real World". You are among an extraordinary group of students selected to
join this programme and can anticipate an outstanding academic experience and unmatched opportunities for
academic exploration and discovery. As a TU-K student, numerous opportunism await you: an esteemed faculty
ready and willing to bring real world experience to the classroom, talented and diverse classmates from all walks
of life who add a unique perspective and value to your education and training, and a myriad of networking and
career opportunities designed to help you become an accomplished individual. These resources coupled with the
University’s other facilities will enrich your enrolment and career.

You are advised to initiate an on-line registration as soon as you receive this letter, guided by the schedule
available on the link that has been sent to your e-mail. You will also be expected to attend the orientation for
newly admitted students that has been scheduled to commence at a date to be provided. Your academic
calendar is divided into a Four-Term System and classes for Term One are scheduled to commence at a date
to be provided.

FEES PAYMENT: Please note that you shall only be allowed to register after paying full Term One fees of KES
20, 500.00. Total fees for the the first academic year is KES 30, 500.00. All fees shall be paid by cash deposits,
EFT, or RTGS transfers at any branch of Kenya Commercial Bank Account Number 1101632445 and the account
name is TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF KENYA. Please refer to the fees schedule for complete information on fees.

HIGHER EDUCATION LOANS BOARD (HELB): The application for these loans should be done before
students register for the programmes on offer and the loans are repayable from the end of the first year upon
completion of studies. You are therefore advised to use details in your admission letter to apply for HELB funding
regardless of the time you intend to report to the University and you should familiarize yourself with HELB
requirements, including the deadlines set by the Board. Whereas HELB requires that applicants submit copies of
their national ID cards, students who are below 18 years of age are allowed to apply except that the decision on
their application shall remain pending until they are able to submit copies of their national ID cards to the Board.
You are advised against giving false information to HELB as this may lead to your blacklisting by the Board.

STUDENT SMART CARD: The Student Smart Card serves both as a channel through which HELB disburses
funds allocated to you and as your identification card. Upon completion of the registration process you will be
expected to apply for a Student Smart Card by activating your student portal and uploading your passport size
photograph with a white background. The specifications of the passport size photograph are available on your
student’s portal and it is important to note that uploading photographs taken as selfies is not acceptable.

JOINING INSTRUCTIONS:Joining instructions provide students with vital information and are useful for
documenting student’s biodata. You are therefore required to complete and upload all relevant sections of the
joining instructions online. The information that you provide in the joining instructions must be accurate and have
to be witnessed by a Commissioner of Oaths or an authorized officer of the Judiciary. Providing false information
or causing unauthorized witnesses to sign your form may lead to rejection of your application and/or may lead to
your prosecution. You will be required to attach a copy of the receipt issued by the Commissioner of Oaths.

ACCOMMODATION: The Technical University of Kenya is considered as a day institution and does not have
adequate accommodation for all its students. However, the Dean of Students has prepared a list of privately-
managed hostels that can be downloaded from the Pre-Admission Page on the Student Portal. For further
enquiries you may wish to contact the Office of the Dean of Students through the e-mail address
dean.students@tukenya.ac.ke. It is expected that you make individual arrangements for your own
accommodation well before the commencement date of orientation.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: You are advised not to seek assistance from persons who are not staff at the
University Finance Office when paying fees. Further, please note that the University does not handle cash money
or personal cheques. All payments should be made to the specified university bank account. It is also mandatory
that each student purchase an affordable laptop to enable them access library and teaching e-materials that are
availed using digital platforms.
