Cast on with square

Start with a small square like this: cast on 3 sts and knit 6 rows.
Do not turn, but knit 3 sts up along the left side = 6 sts.
Do not turn, but knit 3 sts up along the left side = 9 sts.

Continue with increases and ridge pattern

1. row (wrong side): k3, p3, k3.
2. row (right side): k3, increase 1, k1, increase 1, k1, increase 1, k1, increase 1, k3 = 4 sts
increase = 13 sts.
3. row: k3,p7, k3.
Place a marker around the middle stitch.
4. row: k3, increase 1, k3, increase 1, knit the middle s, increase 1, k3, increase 1, k3 = 17 sts.
5. row (ridge): k8, purl the middle s, k8.
6. row: k3, increase 1, k5, increase 1, knit the middle s, increase 1, k5, increase 1, k3 = 21 sts.
7. row: k3, p15, k3.
8. row: k3, increase 1, knit sts to the middle s, increase 1, knit the middle s, increase 1, knit sts
until you have 3 sts left, increase 1, k3 = 25 sts.
9. row (ridge): Knit sts to the middle s, purl the middle s, knit the rest of the row.
10. row: k3, increase 1, knit sts to the middle s, increase 1, knit the middle s, increase 1, knit until
you have 3 sts left, increase 1, k3.
11. row: k3, purl sts until you have 3 sts left, k3.
Repeat row 8. to 11. until the shawl measures approx. 31.5 inches (80 cm) at the middle stitch.
Note: we used approx. 1-1.2 oz (30-35 g) of yarn for the edge and binding off.

Bottom edge
Knit 6 rows and continue increases on the right side as previous.
Bind off loosely in knit stitch while you increase as previous.

Tassel
We used approx. 0.3 oz (8 g) of yarn for the tassel.
Take a piece of cardboard that measures approx. 2.8 inches (7 cm) wide.
Wrap the yarn around the cardboard until you have a good amount (thick layer of yarn).
Wrap a yarn end of approx. 9.84 inches (25 cm) around the top of the yarn on the other side of
the cardboard and tie a few knots, not too tight. The knot is tightened later on. Remove the
cardboard.
Twist a yarn end around the yarn 0.39-0.79 inches (1-2 cm) from the knot and tie a couple of
knots.
Pull the ends and hide them inside the tassel.
Cut the opposite end of the knot. Loosen the knot in the top and tie a couple of knots tight
around the yarn. Sew the tassel on to the tip of the shawl.
