You have to give it a try because it’s looking so nice

and can’t imagine how easy is to make.

Bat wings sweater might sound as a creapy name,

but lately I made a passion in finding unusual names
for my designs.

For this piece, the name Bat Wings Sweater is

perfect. Even the color takes you there, so I liked it
and this is how I make this sweater known

About the design

This sweater is so simple. Only one piece to make

and done.

All you have to know is how to increase and decrease

and how to make a half double crochet. And if you
don’t know how, you still can try, because this
pattern come with a video tutorial that might help
you out.

So, we will start from the bottom of one side of the

sweater. We will make an elastic band at the
beginning and then we will work only in half double
crochet, increasing, until we get almoast to the neck
line.
Then we will stop increasing and working some rows
without increasing. Let a hole for the neck and then
continue working in the mirror the first side.

Fold the piece in half and sew the edges.

Now let see what we will need to make this Bat

Wings Sweater.

First, Yarn.

I uses Katia Saigon, which is a 5 ply, sport weight

yarn. The recommended hook size for this yarn is 2
mm – 2.5 mm ( B – C).

I can say that I found it easier to work with a bigger

hook, so for the Bat Wings Sweater I used a 5 mm
(H) hook size and it worked very well.

For each size you will approximate need:

S – 300 g/ 900 m / 980 yds

M – 330 g, 970 m / 1060 yds

L – 350 g, /1040 m / 1140 yds

XL – 370 g / 1100 m / 1200 yds

XXL – 400 g / 1200 m / 1310 yds

Like you noticed, this pattern is available for sizes

from S to XXL and is wrote in US terms.

Now, let’s see the final measurements for the Bat

Wings Sweater. They are listed in the diagram
bellow. The diagram is facing just one side of the
sweater.

Between brackets are the measurements for size M,

L, X Large and 2X Large.

Abbreviations used in this pattern

Ch – chain
Sc – single crochet
Hdc – half double crochet
Dc – double crochet
FPDc – Front post double crochet
BPDc – Back Post double crochet
St (s) – stitch (es)
Inc – increase ( 2 hdc in the same st)
Dec – decrease ( sc2tog – 2 single crochet
worked together)

Gauge

15 hdc = 10 cm (4″)

11 rows = 10 cm (4″)

Let’s start the Bat Wings Sweater

Make the foundation chain (you can also start with a

foundation double crochet if you want)

S – 76 sts
M – 90
L – 105
XL – 120
XXL – 135

Elastic Band

Row 1

Ch 3 and starting with the 4th st, make 1 dc in each st

to the end of the round. Ch 3 and turn

Row 2

[1 FPDc, 1 BPDc] repeat to the end of the row, ending

with 1 dc in the 3rd st of the turning chain.

Row 3

Repeat the row 2.

Front side of the Bat Wings Sweater

Row 1

1 Hdc in each st to the end of the row. Ch 2 and turn.

For size M repeat this row 2 more times (3 rows)

For sizes L, XL, XXL repeat row 1, 3 more times ( 4

rows)

The row number for sizes M, L, XL, XXL are from

now between brackets.

Row 2 (4, 5, 5, 5)

1 inc in the first st (2 hdc in the first st), 1 hdc in each

stitch to the last one, 1 inc in the last st. Ch 2 and
turn.

Rows 3 – 40 (5 – 40, 6 – 40, 6 – 40, 6 – 40)

Repeat row 2 (4, 5, 5, 5)

After 40 rows you will have:

S – 154 sts

M – 164

L – 177

XL – 192

XXL – 207

Starting with the next row we will continue working

straight without increasing:

S – 11 rows
M – 13
L – 14
XL – 15
XXL – 16

Now it’s time to let a space for the neck. On this step
you will need 2 stitch marckers or 2 strand of a
different color yarn.
For the neck we will mark in the middle:

S – 36 sts ( 59 sts left on each side)

M – 38 sts ( 63 sts left on each side)
L – 41 sts ( 68 sts left on each side)
XL – 44 sts (74 sts left on each side)
XXL – 47 sts ( 80 sts left on each side)

Row 52 (52, 54, 55, 56)

1 hdc in each sts to the first stitch marker ( make 1

hdc in the stitch marked too), ch 36 (38, 41, 44, 47), 1
hdc in the second marked stitch and 1 hdc in each
stitch to the end of the row.

After this row we will start to work the back side of

the Bat wings sweater. Basically we will repeat the
pattern for the front side but in mirror.

So, we will continue to work the same number of

straight rows as we did for the front side, before the
neck opening.

S – 11 rows

M – 13 rows

L – 14 rows

XL – 15 rows

XXL – 16 rows.

Now to obtain the same shape as for the front side

we will start, beginning with the next row,
decreasing with 1 st at every beginning and end of
the row.

We will do the decrease by making sc2tog in the first

2 sts and in the last 2.
We will work like this:

S – 39 rows

M – 37

L – 36

XL – 36

XXL – 36

Now we have the same width as we started and of

course the same number of stitches.

We will continue with straight rows, without

decreasing:

S – 1 row

M – 3 rows

L – 4 rows

XL – 4 rows

XXL 4 rows.

And the back side is done. We only have to add the

elastic band. To make this, just repeat the first 3
rows that we make on the elastic band at the
beginning of the front side.

After finishing the elastic band all you have to do is

to fold the piece in half and sew the edges.

And done. The Bat Wings Sweater is ready to be add

in your wardrobe.

After sewing you can add an elastic band at the end

of the sleeves if you want.

So, I hope you like it. Even if might look that is a lot
of words to follow to make this sweater you will see
that after reading the pattern once, you can make it.

Bellow you can find the video tutorial.
