Colorful Mosaic Window

In the wake of huge junks of waste materials that are chocking our environment, a number of

innovations have come up in trying to reduce and reuse waste materials. Materials that can be

reused range from plastic, wood, glass, metals and even organic materials.

Broken glass can be a serious health risk if it gets contaminated with body fluids, harmful

chemicals or infectious toxins that can enter the body by cutting or puncturing. Old or broken

glasses are good examples of waste materials that can be reused to make stunning decorations

like a mosaic window. Mosaic window is a coherent pattern consisting of small regular and

irregular pieces of glass kept in place by a glue that covers the plane entirely.

The mosaic pattern can be home-made or bought from retailers or manufacturers. The

manufactured mosaic windows can be made of glass or one can buy a mosaic film to stick onto

the window pane. Amazon sells the mosaic films at $12.95 without shipping fee (2020). Etsy

also sells the glass mosaic windows at €91.79 (inches, 2020). In this project, we’ll look at steps

of making a simple home-made mosaic window.

2. Gives a spectacular pattern and elegant décor.

3. Obscures unwanted views to provide partial privacy protection.

Materials needed

1. Broken glass.

2. Hammer.
3. Transparent pane.

4. Window frame with hanging chains.

5. Clear super glue.

6. Hanging chain.

Procedure of making a Mosaic Window

a. Get broken glasses of your preferred colors.

b. Using a hammer, carefully break the glasses into very small pieces or smaller shapes of

your choice.

c. Make a wooden window frame mounted with transparent panes and hanging chains.

d. Smear one side of the panes with a thin layer of clear super glue.

e. Carefully sprinkle/arrange the pieces of glass on the super glue and leave them for 5

minutes to stick.

f. Your Mosaic window is ready now. Hang/put it at the window at any time.
