Hello everybody, today I'm going to be talking to you about money.

I will mention some key terms such as

what's a mark serial number issuing authority, metallic thread and microprint. I'm sure by now you can
guess that I'm going to be talking about how money is printed. ladies and gentlemen quiet recently I had
an interesting experience in Liberia. Many of you may not now this but Liberia is it runs a duel currency
system which means that they spend the US dollar and the Liberian dollar. So, I entered into a restaurant
with a friend of mine and the weights the server did not have any change. So even though I paid in US
Dollars I was giving back both US dollars and Liberian dollars as change. I am remarked to my friend
that's quite interesting because I wouldn't even know if I was getting real or fake Liberian dollars at this
point since it was my first time actually coming into contact with it. Then he decided to give me a lesson
how banknotes are printed so I could tell the difference between the real and the fake and that's what I'm
going to show you. On every banknote we have a watermark. Whenever they tell you show the money for
that light and you would see something that is actually the watermark. And that watermark is one of the
features that distinguishes a real Banknote from a fake one. Aside that most banknotes have portraits or
some type of image. And these images are actually humdrum images by artist which are reproduced. If
these images were to be drawn with a computer it would have a different effect and as such be
detectable, especially since every artist has their own signature style of drawing. And then we have serial
numbers. Serial numbers are numbers that are used to differentiate each and every banknote, these are
issued by the issuing authority which is the Central Bank of whichever country or states that is issuing or
printing the money. So, whenever these banknotes Scott back to the Central Bank and they are run
through the system since the central bank has a record of all these serial numbers, if one is found to be
out of place, then it is seen as a fake or fortune banknote. We have other features such as metallic thread
or even microprint which can be found in the US dollar. All these are things that I used to tell the
difference between a real banknote and a fake banknote. Let us not forget however that banknotes are
not printed from near essential Bank cannot just go and take paper, run it into a computer printer and just
get money. It takes money to print money. Now the interesting thing is that it is quite more cost-effective
to print money or banknotes with higher denominations. The reason being that if you were to print $1,000
you would need fewer hundred dollar notes to get those $1,000 then if you are to print say $10. So, it's
quite expensive printing all this money. That brings to mind another interesting fact that my friend who
happens to be an economic and Monitry Experts brought to my attention during this conversation.  Some
years back Ghana decided to have a redenomination exercise and in order to make this with the wild he
decided to print completely new banknotes and they renamed it the new Ghana CD.  The old city was
there for became redundant. Now it was one thing about the new Ghana CD that I had never seen for all
these years I have been using it and that is that the denomination in words did not correspond to the
value as written in numbers. And so, you would have on a 50CD notes that is 50 Ghana CD notes, just
50CDs, which on a normal day actually brings you back to the old Ghana CD and yet if you are looking at
the numerical denomination, it has the new Ghana CD on it. So, now we are using a bank note that
obviously has an error and I wonder, which government is going to put in some more money to print out a
correct one. Thank you.
