Geographic indication is a sign used on products that have specific geographic origin and possess
qualities or a reputation that are due to place of origin.

Indigenous and traditional knowledge refers to a living body of knowledge that is developed, sustained
and passed on from many generations within in a community

What are the most important criteria in order to develop GI-label?

There are three most important criteria in order to develop GI-label those are Known quality, specific
characteristics and a reputation that is essentially attributable to region or locality from where the goods
originated.

tedious process.

But the Chang brand has been miss used by various other foreign companies and has been selling Chang
in various part of the world. GI- application would create a competitive advantage but patenting the
product under GI which will help small producer to grow in the market. It Nepal local chang is still
untouched in other countries. So there a wide scope for the market and consumer for the chang outside
Nepal.
