How does Ethnolinguistic/Regional group change?

1. Based on Language
- Ethnolinguistic group is a group that shares the same language and ethnicity wherein language serves as the
main factor in identifying the group. Ethnolinguistic group can change based on their language vitality which is defined
as the extent to which a language is passed on to the next generation. When a group cannot pass their language to the
succeeding generations, their ability to survive and thrive as a linguistic and collective entity within the intergroup
setting is highly compromised which leads to the change within the ethnolinguistic group. Example is let’s may
nakapasok na bagong language sa isang ethnic group and then people started to speak it instead na yung original
languagage nila, chances are na hindi na maipapasa yung dialect nila, changing their culture as a whole. Example is yung
ibaloi language which ang sabi is closely related to Pangasinan language although it is mainly spoken by tribes sa
Benguet, so hindi sure if considered sya na galling sa Pangasinan or sa Cordillera so this makes us think na kung ang
culture ba nila galling sa Pangasinan or talagang nag originate sa kanila.

2. Based on Acculturation
- Acculturation is defined as the process of change in customs, beliefs, and traditions that result from the contact
of two cultures. Ang difference ng enculturation is that ang enculturation is the process of learning their first culture
whereas ang acculturation is learning a second culture. This simply means that ethnolinguistic group will change since
they acquire and adopt the new and prevalent culture while preserving their original cultural values and traditions.
Changes in culture, language, religious practices, health care, and other social institutions are the results of
acculturation. Example neto is yung mga migrants, So sa Benguet ang main language nila is Ibaloi, Kalanguya, and
Kankanay pero most of them speak Ilocano na which is dinala ng mga migrants sa area nila.

3. Based on Adoption
- Cultural adoption literally means that a group adopts or uses the beliefs and practices of a different group.
When an individual from the group start to adopt the ways of a different group, other individuals might start to adopt
these practices as well, resulting to a change in practices within the group. Usually cultural adoption or appropriation
leads to different problems such as racism especially when a group adopts practices from a non-dominant group. Hmm
not familiar pero possible example is when people wear tribal costumes in parties or inappropriate setting not knowing
na disrespectful siya sa culture ng tribe na pinagkuhaan.

4. Based on Religious conversion

- Religion is one of the factors that differentiate groups from each other. Different groups have their own
religious beliefs and practices. Religious conversion is a process of adopting different religious beliefs, abandoning the
affiliation with the religious denomination. When individuals within a group starts to convert and observe new religious
beliefs, a change in religious affiliations, worldview, and identity within the group will occur. Well ang generic example
neto is yung pag baptize ng mga Spaniards sa Cebu kay rajah humabon and his constituents which made their culture
revolve around the ways of Catholicism. Another one is ung mga Ibaloi na traditionally worships spirits, asking for their
ancestors blessing pero now, some of them change their religion dahil sa mga missionaries and yung introduction ng
new religion.
