1. Preface

1-1 Purpose of the sterilizer

- The water, which is generated for drinking by fresh water generator in vessel or supplied water in yard,
has plenty of germs and bacteria in ship, therefore this water should be disinfected for drinking by the
appropriate method.
- Among those sterilizer units, U.V. sterilizing type is widely used. Because it is easy to control and repair
with simple structure.
- To remove typical viruses, colitis germs and bacteria, U.V. sterilizer is equipped with U.V. lamp that emits
efficiently a large amount of ultraviolet rays 253.7nm which have excellent germicidal effect.

1-2 General Notice

- In order to obtain maximum benefit, the user should confirm that the unit is installed and operated
correctly. Thus, the user can avoid accidents and retain the manufacturer’s warranty.
- These operating instructions help the user to understand as dividing into separate sections for easy
reference.
- Please read carefully before installing and operating the sterilizer
- The sterilizer must be used for the designated purpose and in combination with any devices or
components recommended or approved by the manufacturer.

1-3 Caution.

- The sterilizer must only be inspected and repaired by qualified staff who are familiar with this unit and
possible dangers during inappropriateness operation or service.
- Any electrical work on the sterilizer must only be carried out by skilled staff-qualified electricians or
person under supervision of a qualified staff.
- Don’t touch power equipment with wet hand
- Once water is stuck on the electric circuit, you must turn off the power promptly and notice it to us
without any hesitation
- Never look into the burning lamps.
- Protect your skin and eyes against the ultraviolet rays.
- The sterilizer contains components that are electrically and which can cause danger to life.
- Never give shock since sterilizer has a quartz sleeve, which is very fragile part angainst vibration and
shock.

2. Specification
2-2.Installation condition

1) Temperature
- The sterilizer should be installed between 2 degrees centigrade and 55 degrees centigrade
2) Humidity
- The sterilizer should be installed in dry place.
- It might be risk of electric leakage, shock and aging, if the product is installed
in humid area.
3) Height
- It must be installed at the proper height so that user can operate easily.
- In order to replace filter and quartz sleeve of Sterilizer, the enough maintenance space must be
checked before installing.

3. Explanations of component
3-1. Standard parts

1) Inlet
- The tail of inlet is flange type, which is the first connector to supply portable water in the
equipment. The standard of this flange is based on JIS or KS, and bolt and nut must be tightened
to prevent a leak of water.

2) Outlet
- The tail of outlet is flange type like inlet, which is connector to transport sterilized water from
the equipment to the suitable place. In addition, the standard of flange is based on JIS or KS, and
bolt and nut must be tightened to prevent a leak of water.

3) Filter housing
- This equipment has a filter inside and assembled in front of chamber.

3. Explanations of component

4) Filter element
- This filter would remove refuse in water supplied to the product.

The filter element(SKPM-SML-077-001) contains Silver Ion(Ag) Carbon,

and it has outstanding sterilizing power compared to existing filter.

5) Chamber
The inside of chamber is the place where sterilization occurs in.

6) U.V. lamp
- U.V. lamps efficiently emit a large amount of ultraviolet ray 253.7nm(nanometers) which has excellent
germicidal effect.
- These lamps have similar structures and electrical characteristics to general fluorescent lamps used for
illumination but composed of ultraviolet ray glass which efficiently transmits ultraviolet rays at 253.7nm.

7) Quartz sleeve
- This is made of quartz that gets excellent transmissivity of ultraviolet rays.

8) Gland fitting.
- This is the characteristic model of “samkun century co., ltd”. This item is connected to chamber body and
hold the quartz sleeve.

9) Drain valve or plug

- When you are about to change filter or U.V. lamp, Open Drain valve or plug to drain remained water in
chamber.

10) Control panel

- This panel is normally installed on chamber to control electrically U.V. sterilizer. It has Ampere meter,
Hour meter, U.V. monitor(option part), pilot lamps, switch, etc. as displaying operating state.

3. Explanations of component

3-2. Option parts

1) Flow control valve

- This valve controls flow rate as water flows through orifice designed for setting flow rate.

2) Solenoid valve
- This valve blocks flowing water when abnormal alarm occurs.
- This valve is composed of valve body and coil(220V/110V).

3) U.V. monitoring system(U.V. sensor, U.V. monitor, PCB)

- It is composed of U.V. sensor, U.V. monitor and PCB and blocks water automatically by means of sole
noid valve in case of shortage of U.V. intensity. U.V. intensity(%) is displayed on U.V. monitor through
U.V. sensor located at inside of Chamber. When U.V. intensity becomes down below 80%, the signal of
abnormal alarm from PCB is transmitted to solenoid valve and blocks water by means of solenoid valve.

4. Operating method

1) Preparation
- Install this unit on designated place in accordance with section 6 “ installation”
- Confirm all connection including inlet and outlet lines.
- Confirm the proper electric source and water is available.
- Open the water line.
- Check the water leakage
- Supply unit with operating voltage for 24 hours prior to start-up.

2) Start
- Turn on the selector switch after checking the water leakage for about 5 min.

3) Operation
- Check the Ampere meter indicates normal electric current.
- Confirm that it takes a few minute for U.V. lamp to become stable after power on.
- Check the U.V. monitor indicates over 80% after lamp becomes stable.(option part)
- And then check the running lamp on.
- After 15 min., Reset digital Hour meter and PCB(option part).
- In case of abnormal condition, Check the hour meter, U.V. monitor and Ampere meter.

4) Stop
- Turn off the selector switch.

NOTE : DON’T TOUCH ANY ELECTRIC EQUIPMENT WITH WET HANDS.

5. Installation

5-1. Instruction for installation and assembly

● The sterilizer should be installed in a dry room indoors(2℃~55℃)
● Ample free space should be allowed for the maintenance of the device.
● The sterilizer should be installed on straight and even wall
● Special foundation for installation is not necessary.
● When installing the sterilizer, ensure all connections are even and no pressure is placed on inlet
and outlet connections.
● The sterilizer should be installed in safety place.
● The sterilizer should be installed in well-ventilated place.
● The water inlet and outlet lines should be equipped with shut off valves and a by-pass system.
● The drain/plug is provided.
● Within the range of possibility, the outside connection pipe is more than a grade SUS 304.
● F lush the pipe before connecting.
● Connect Fresh water pipe to the sterilizer inlet and lines.

NOTE : PROTECT YOUR EYE AND SKIN AGAINST THE ULTRA VIOLET RAY.

5. Installation

5-2. Moving Method & Condition (Weight, Dimension)

● For the purpose of installing, the sterilizer is moved by fork-lift truck or another suitable device.
● The sterilizer is thoroughly checked and packed, before it leaves the factory, it has been handed
over to the forwarding agent in perfect condition.
● The manufacturer is not responsible for damages occurred during transport.
● Not use inlet or outlet connection for the purpose of lifting.

5-3. Warning in regard to inappropriate installation.

● When installing: avoid such places as rainy, windy and so much moist areas.
● Avoid such places as raising so much dust and fog because of in active capacity.
● Avoid such places where it is difficult to install, repair or replace.
● Avoid such trembling places because water tube and parts of device will be shortened
● Avoid such places as low degree areas (below 0℃)because of freezing inside of it

5-4. Safety measure to be followed for installation

● When installing, don’t force too strong.
● Absolutely need to pay attention not to be dropped or shocked, in case of that it’ll be destroyed
and harmful to mankind

6. PRESERVATION
- The equip should be covered in indoor.

- Drain all water inside of equipment is not used.

- Keep the equipment in safe place.

- Please turn off the running switch, if it doesn’t operate.

- Keep the product in a safe place from the rain or the moisture.

- Don’t press the pipe connection.

- Don’t press the chamber in order to avoid damage to quarts sleeve and UV lamps.

- Keep the pressure gauge in protective covered.

- In & Out let shall be covered with a cap not to allow any dust to come in before install the equipment.

7-1. Safety Precaution

● To obtain maximum efficiency and operation of the sterilizer ensure all sections of the
manual read carefully.
● Don’t touch any electric equipment with wet hands.
● Protect your eye and skin against the ultra violet.
● Turn off the power and drain out all water before replacing the filter.
● Don’t pressure too much when assembling the gland fittings, since it’s very sensitive part to
be broken easily.
● Before the replacement, be sure to clean with soft dry cloth.
● U.V. sterilizer has very sensitive components like U.V. lamp and Quartz sleeve. Therefore,
please pay attention a lot when use it.
● Please turn off the running switch, if it wouldn’t be operating.
● Please drain out and close the inlet valve, if it wouldn’t be operating.

NOTE : IN CASE OF THE CLOGGING OF CARTRIDGE FILTER,

REPLACE IT WITH NEW ONE.

7. Maintenance

7-2. Periodic check and adjustment

1) Per month Maintenance

● Check the quartz sleeve’s surface.
● In case that quartz sleeve is dirty, clean that with dry cloth after opening the gland fitting.
● Keep the quartz sleeve clean outside for example hand mark and dust.
● Check in/outlet press range so as to confirm condition of filter.

2) Per three month Maintenance

● Check the electric parts of various functions.
● Check filter and replace with new one at every end of each quarter.

3) Per annual Maintenance

● Check on normal state of an outside view and all of the system.
● Check life time of the germicidal lamp through hour meter.

NOTE : TURN OFF THE POWER AND DRAIN OUT ALL WATER
BEFORE REPLACING THE FILTER.

4) Main cause of the decrease of sterilization

1. DIRTINESS OF FILTER

2. DIRTINESS OF WATER TUBE

3. GERMICIDAL LAMP GETS OLD

4. DIRTINESS OF GERMICIDAL LAMP SURFACE

① Dirtiness of filter
In fact, this has no direct relation to sterilization power, however, it is said that the bacteria and germ
are always stick in the filter and it will be replaced periodically at least every 3 month.

② Dirtiness of water tube(quartz sleeve)

As a dirtiness of water tube may be caused decreasing sterilizing power it is always paying attention to
clean it once a three month both side, interior surface with condenser brush and exterior surface with soft
dry cloth.

③ The germicidal lamps get older

It is said that it's average life is generally for about 12 month(9000hr) when all days used and in this
case the 100% of sterilizing power will be decreased, even though it is very dangerous to see the
light with your naked eyes when the new replacement, and it is always covered with paper or use
any kind of glasses.

7. Maintenance

④ Dirtiness of germicidal lamp surface

As to decrease the sterilizing effect, it is at least, to clean with soft dry cloth every 3 months and for new
replacement, should be clean before set-in.

NOTE : DON’T PRESSURE TOO MUCH WHEN ASSEMBLING THE GLAND

FITTINGS, SINCE IT’S VERY SENSITIVE PART TO BE BROKEN EASILY.

7-3. Caution of replacement for parts

① Turn off the power, stop the flowing water and drain out in unit before replacing.
② When you replace U.V. lamp, please be careful to loose and assemble the gland fitting.
Because quartz sleeve and U.V. lamps are very fragile parts.

7-4. Instruction of replacement

1) Filter
① Turn off the power, stop the flowing water and drain from unit.
② Open the clamp, and install new type filter element into Filter housing, and then close clamp.
Filter should be tightly installed with the bottom connector.(It is defective product, If it doesn’t fit)

2) Lamp or quartz sleeve

① Turn off the power, stop the flowing water and drain from unit.
② Loose gland fitting carefully and put out lamp or quartz sleeve.
③ Replace them and connect with cable in case of lamp.
④ Clean new one with soft dry cloth.
⑤ Pay attention not to lose O-ring inside of gland fitting.
⑥ After replacing lamp or quartz sleeve, assembly the gland fitting carefully.

NOTE : BEFORE THE REPLACEMENT, BE SURE TO CLEAN WITH SOFT

DRY CLOTH.

* Check
1. When the abnormal alarm is occurred or UV monitor has problem, please check the UV lamp condition.
(Check the UV lamp and cleanliness state of the Quartz sleeve)
2. If the UV lamps have problem, please change the UV lamps.
If the UV lamps have problem after replacement, check the ballast.
3. If the UV lamps and ballast are normal condition, check the leakage on inside of UV sensor socket.
4. The condition of abnormal occurrence is as below.
- Bad UV lamps and dirty quartz sleeves
- Bad UV lamps operation caused by bad ballast
- UV Sensor has problem caused by leakage in sensor socket.
- Above this,
early operation, After UV lamps replacement and sudden change of environmental temperature.

NOTE

1) U.V.STERILIZER HAS VERY FRAGILE COMPONENTS LIKE U.V. LAMP

AND QUARTZ SLEEVE. PAY ATTENTION A LOT WHEN YOU USE IT.
2) To maintain sterilizing power, Quarts sleeve should be clean every 6 months.
If Quarts sleeve is not clean after washing, please replace Quarts sleeve.
