Business culture in Ukraine

Business etiquette
Large Ukrainian companies adhere to European business etiquette, often using the
rules of multinational corporations. Ukrainians like to build a business with friends, so
a conversation on personal or social topics at the beginning of acquaintance will help
you to place a new partner, and he will get to know you better from the very
beginning. The first time you meet someone, you'll probably get to know them
officially, and more relaxed conversation is only possible over time. Nevertheless, the
planned program of the meeting is only a benchmark for future communication. Do
not be surprised if the topics of conversation will sometimes be far from the business.
You will be able to make a pleasant impression on the Ukrainians, if your business
cards are printed not only in Russian, but also in Ukrainian, and all the documents for
the meeting will also be presented in two languages. As Ukrainians are hospitable
people and like to celebrate any, even minor events, including acquaintances, do not
be surprised if you are invited to a business meeting with a table right home.

Qualities and decision-making

In business, Ukrainians are often inert and indecisive. Such clumsiness is explained by
the equilibrium and desire to "have a bird in the hand rather than a crane in the sky".
Unclear attractive prospects are not so tempting for them. Ukrainians are economic
people. They are persistent and conservative in their actions. Economy and
pragmatism make Ukrainians strive for accumulation and comfort. But this does not
affect the hospitality in any way. Ukrainians are very fond of hosting guests and
always do it in the best way. Any guest in the Ukrainian house is always honored; a
rich table will be set for him, all conditions for comfort will be created, even if the
owner himself will be shy in something.

Dress code
The majority of Ukrainian employers impose requirements on appearance. Only a
quarter of Ukrainian offices work without a dress code, in all other cases, the
employer in one way or another asks employees to monitor their appearance. Most
often, employees are asked to follow the office style of clothing, not to abuse
accessories and jewelry and look like a position. Nevertheless, strict requirements to
the appearance of employees are rarely imposed, the most popular option is a mixture
of smart jewelry and business style. In other words, employees should give preference
to business and office clothing, do not wear tracksuits, miniskirts and jeans. This is the
kind of dress code that 45% of employers ask for. Strictly adhere to the business style
in 17% of Ukrainian offices, and another 10% of companies have very strict
requirements not only for the style of clothing, but also for the appearance of
employees in general.
