A Hi, I’m Jenny and I live in Scotland. Scotland is a fantastic country. It’s
part of the island of Great Britain, but we have our own islands, too –
about 790 of them!

B Scotland is famous for its beautiful mountains. Most of the mountains

are in the north west of the country and they’re higher than all the
other mountains in Great Britain. Perhaps you know Ben Nevis? It’s a
very famous mountain and it’s 1,344 m high.

C Our lakes are bigger, too. The lake Loch Ness, home of the famous Loch Ness monster, contains more water
than all the lakes in England and Wales!

D For a small country we have a long coastline: 9,914 km in fact. And when you include all the islands, the number
rises even further, to 16,500 km! Our beaches in the east are long and sandy, but I think the beaches in the west
are more beautiful.

E Winters are long in Scotland. But surprisingly, they aren’t as cold as some people think. That’s because we’re
next to the North Atlantic Ocean. Warm air comes in from the ocean, so it doesn’t get too cold. Our summers
are shorter than in some countries and temperatures rarely get very high. But our summer days are longer. In
the north of Scotland, in the middle of summer, it never gets completely dark at night!
