Many factors play an important role in staying healthy. In turn, good health can
reduce the risk of developing certain conditions. These include heart disease, stroke,
some types of cancer and injuries. Learn what you can do to maintain your health
and that of your family.

Road to better health

Eat healthy
What you eat is closely linked to your health. Balanced nutrition has many benefits.
By making healthier food choices, you can prevent or treat some conditions. These
include heart disease, stroke and diabetes. A healthy diet can help you lose weight
and lower cholesterol.

Exercise regularly.

Exercise can help prevent heart disease, strokes, diabetes and colon cancer. It can
help treat depression, osteoporosis and high blood pressure. People who exercise
are also injured less frequently. Regular exercise can make you feel better and keep
your weight under control. Try to be active for 30 to 60 minutes approximately 5
times a week. Remember, any amount of exercise is better than nothing.
If you are overweight, lose weight.
Many Americans are overweight. Being overweight increases the risk of several
diseases. Some of these include:

high blood pressure

high cholesterol
type 2 diabetes
heart disease
stroke
some types of cancer
gallbladder disease

Being overweight can also lead to weight-related injuries. A common problem is

arthritis in the joints that support weight, such as the spine, hips or knees. There are
several things you can try that can help you lose weight and maintain it.
Protect your skin.
Sun exposure is related to skin cancer. This is the most common type of cancer in
the United States. It is best to limit the time spent in the sun. Be sure to wear
protective clothing and hat when outside. Use sunscreen throughout the year on
exposed skin, such as the face and hands. Protects your skin and helps prevent skin
cancer. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays. It
must be at least one SPF 15. Do not sunbathe or use tanning booths.
Practice safe sex.
Safe sex is good for your emotional and physical health. The safest way to have sex
is between 2 people who only have sex with each other. I use protection to prevent
sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Condoms are the most effective form of
prevention. Talk to your doctor if you need to have an STD test.

Do not smoke or use tobacco.

Smoking and smoking are harmful habits. They can cause heart disease and cancer
of the mouth, throat or lung. They are also major factors of emphysema and chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The sooner I leave it, the better.
Limit the amount of alcohol you drink.
Men should not consume more than 2 drinks a day. Women should not consume
more than 1 drink a day. A drink is equal to 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine or
1.5 ounces of liquor. Too much alcohol can harm your liver. It can cause some types
of cancer, such as throat, liver or pancreas. Alcohol abuse also contributes to deaths
from car accidents, murders and suicides.

Aspects to consider
In addition to the factors mentioned above, you should devote time to the health of
the entire body. Visit your doctors for regular check-ups. This includes your GP, as
well as your dentist and ophthalmologist. Let your health benefits and preventive
care services work for you. Make sure you know what your health insurance plan
includes. Preventive care can detect diseases or prevent diseases before they begin.
This includes certain doctor visits and exams.
You need to devote time to breast health. Breast cancer is one of the leading causes
of death in women. Men can also get breast cancer. Talk to your doctor about when
you should start getting mammograms. You may need to start exams early if you
have risk factors, such as a family history. One way to detect breast cancer is to
have a monthly self-exam.
Women should also have routine pap smears. Women ages 21 to 65 should be
tested every 3 years. This may differ depending on certain conditions or if your cervix
has been removed.
Ask your doctor about other cancer screening tests. Adults should be tested for
colorectal cancer after age 50. Your doctor may want to check other types of cancer.
This will depend on your risk factors and family history.
Keep a list of the medications you are currently taking. In turn, you should keep up to
date on vaccines, including an annual flu vaccine. Adults need a Td booster every 10
years. Your doctor can replace it with Tdap. This also protects against convulse
cough (whooping cough). Pregnant women need the Tdap vaccine. People who are
in close contact with babies should also give it to them.
List of new words or phrases you have learned in the project.
