Who will make it to the top?

The Lion vs. The Carabao: A Short Reaction Essay about the SEA Games 2019 Highlights
(Singapore vs. Philippines – Table Tennis Men Doubles Quarter Finals)

Table tennis is a very fun and enjoyable game. Now it is not only a game, but a sport – an
Olympic sport. It is byfar the most famous sport all over the world that can be played indoors
(and also indoors), and at the same time, a sports that have a significant part on the international
sports event such as Olympics and South-East Asian Games or the SEA Games. In this short
essay, I will be discussing my reactions and realization about the SEA Games 2019 Highlights:
Singapore vs. Philippines – Table Tennis Men Doubles Quarter Finals.

Whenever a player is at the right side of the table, he should serve his ball towards the
left side (the right side of his opponent), and whenever a player is at the left side of the table, he
should serve his ball towards the right side (now, the left side of his opponent). On this table
tennis video where in doubles are played, I realized that I can be a support to my partner, and at
the same time, be the main player of the game. Through alternate hits, we can show to our
audiences our highlights and performance through supporting each other partners throughout the
game.

Players on both teams executed their roles with right delivery and with emotional
tolerance. We all know that whenever we lost a game, it is most likely to feel frustrated and lose
interest to play such game, but in this video, the team of the Philippines lost the overall match,
and still show good sportsmanship towards the players of Singapore. With this, I also realized
that sportsmanship in every game is vital on having good relationship towards your opponents,
and even to other people. Healthy rivalry and competitiveness can also develop through good
application of sportsmanship. All of these are shown by the players in the video.

I realized that players should always play in an alternate sequence for his partner have a
chance to serve and play the game. Giving each others a chance to play can be a foundation of
teamwork, which can be very helpful on every type of game where double player is applicable.

Too much force will cause your ball to bounce off of the table, and too less of a force can
make your ball short in service. Relating this to our daily lives, I must say that too much of
everything or something is as bad as too little. The players control their force on hitting every
ball they take, and observe precautions and make trajectory predictions in able to obtain
advantage in every set. This is also applicable when we truly apply this principle on our daily
lives. We write our own future, as table tennis players control their force on their respective
rackets, and should play our roles on this world with utmost accuracy, rightfulness, and right
decision making.

I’m amazed on the overall performance of both teams, even though I watched a lot of
table tennis videos previously. I gained interest on the said sport, and I might try it next time, or
maybe on end of this quarantine for it is better to play with friends and classmates who share the
same thought on table tennis. I must say that table tennis will be a very interesting game once
played in an actual setting.

Question: Write in a whole sheet of paper, what you observed in the game?

 There was a lot of observations that we can make with the game, but I observed that In
this video of table tennis doubles, you have to serve diagonally to your opponent, from
your right-hand half of the court to your opponents' right-hand half of the court. In order
to this, you have to hit the ball with your raquet towards to the opposite side (left side if
you’re in the right side, and right side of you’re in the left side) of the opponent’s table. I
also noticed that whenever there are rallies in every game, the players their footwork
performance is consistent, which helped the players with their flexibility and agility in
catching their balls. Additionally, I also observed that in every game, the players make a
significant distance to themselve in order to move and hit freely. I must say that one of
the most important parts of playing doubles is staying out of your partner's way. With
this, we should ake notice of where our partner prefers to play from, and over time we
will learn to automatically move out of the areas they like to hit the ball from.
