Marshalling of liferafts using rescue boats or motor
lifeboats

1. Maneuver life boat to approach life raft

2. Indicate exact location of the life raft Approach life raft with

3. Set life boat engine to neutral when lifeboat is closer to life
raft
4. Establish line of connection between life raft and life boat
5. Secure towing line to strong point of life raft and life boat
6. Tow life raft to safe area at maximum speed of 3 knots

PROCEDURE
Rescue of survivors from the water using rescue boats or
motor lifeboats

1. Steer the boat into the wind then towards the survivor
2. Instruct which side to approach the survivor and reduce speed
when closer to the survivor
3. Maneuver rescue boat alongside the survivor
4. Set engine to neutral position
5. Start recovering the casualty, place head to stern and feet to
the bow
6. Maneuver rescue boat into the wind
7. Assess and report the condition of survivor to the ship via VHF
radio
8. Change course to ship when survivor is stabilized
