PEANUT STOCKS AND PROCESSING REPORT– USDA’s Peanut Stocks and Processing Report was released January 27,
2021 for the month of December 2020, the 5th month of the marketing year.
Peanut stocks in commercial storage as of December 31, 2020 totaled 4.37 billion pounds equivalent farmer stock,
compared to 4.61 billion pounds last year, DOWN 5.0%. Total includes 3.71 billion pounds of actual farmer stock (-3.9%).
Shelled peanuts on hand farmer stock equivalent totaled 632 million pounds, down 11.9%. Roasted stocks were 28.0
million pounds, same as last year.
Total shelled peanut stocks showed 475 million pounds, DOWN 11.9% with edible grades totaling 453 million
pounds, down 11.9%. Oil stocks totaled 22.9 million pounds, DOWN 8.0% from one year ago.
Edible stocks of shelled peanuts by type, Virginia & Valencia stocks are at 62.7 million pounds, 28% less than last
year. Runners were 352 million pounds, down 8.3% and Spanish totaled 37.6 million lbs, DOWN 11.1% from last year.
In December, shellers milled 376 million pounds, 26.6% MORE than December last year.
Commercial processors used 195 million pounds of shelled edible peanuts, 8.3% MORE than last December.
Government purchases for Nutrition Programs were DOWN 79% in Dec. vs Dec. last year. For the 5-month period,
government purchases are down 66% as many processors did not submit a bid for product production.

December showed peanut usage continuing to rise. Shelled edible grade, season to date utilization, was UP almost 7.8%
percent from last year. Peanut stocks in commercial storage totaled 4.37 million lbs., down 5 percent. Peanuts used in
candy continued at a record pace, up 31%, peanut snack usage was UP 7.0% percent and even peanut butter showed a 4.7
percent increase and a 3.8% increase for the month. Government purchases are down 68% for the month and down 70%
for the year as processors do not have ample time for peanut butter or roasted peanut production. Utilization is up 8%.

❖ We are saddened to report the death of Larry Gene Shedd, 73 of Doerun, Georgia. Larry died January 17 at his home.
